Scholastic book Darth Vader scans (Pic heavy)

I know most have seen these before, but I just scanned them from my own book and figured I would post them for those that haven't seen them. A few of the scans came out massive, and flickr downsized the really big ones. If you want the full size ones, PM me with your e-mail addy.

Can someone answer me this : For a short time growing up, I saw every shirt that had a darth vader on it had a "pink" nose where the silver gun metal is. I thought this was weird, but saw it over and over again and I remember distinctly not wanting the shirts or books because of this . Can someone explain to me after all these years, WHY that was ?

I think it was mentioned in an interview that his hand was empty and the hilt and blade was painted on by Ralph McQuarrie. I'll see if I can find where I read that.
