I know some other members did this already, but wanted to show my attempt. All said and done this cost me under $12. Started with an LED lantern from Harbor Freight, $4.99.
Then I bought this four pack of battery operated LED pucks from Amazon. It's $18 and comes with 4 remotes and 4 lights (great deal), so me and some friends split the cost 4 ways. These have several light options and modes.
I completely disassembled the lantern and got rid of all the electronics, then masked and painted it. For the LED pucks, I removed the inside of the puck from the clear outer case and used only the inside main component, that helped it fit in the bottom cap without any modifications (I secured it to the bottom with a Velcro round). I found a file on Thingiverse for the center crystal holder and printed it. I don't remember who the creator was, but you can search kyber crystal holder and there's a few options.
I opted to leave the clear lens on, but I've seen some where they take it off. I didn't have to modify anything on the lantern to make this, it's pretty easy. I used some small split rivets to cap the ends where the metal handles were. I have some touch-ups to do (I dropped the bottom cap and it chipped), then on to weathering. Fun little project..............
