Sasquatch...

Tempest

New Member
I'm new here but have been an outsider looking in for a little while. I have dabbled with some suit making/customization of existing suits etc... for a few years as my family throws some pretty spectacular Halloween parties. This eventually led to cosplay for me, especially attending the NYCC as Dr. Doom (profile pic) & the Moon Knight this last October to a lot of fanfare.
I was especially impressed with the likes of some of the larger cosplays out there like the Juggernaut, the Hulkbuster the Hulk, Thanos etc... With that said, I have always been a huge fan of John Byrne's Alpha Flight and especially fond of Sasquatch. I initially came across this forum while conducting a search for Sasquatch builds when I found a member's build from several years ago, the only one in existence! I was hooked when I came across that build and decided to try my hand at it.
I have tried to approach this from a different angle than what was attempted before in that I wanted to source a full body muscle suit and have it furred up. This has become a tremendous undertaking that wound up a collaboration with a very talented artist whom I have been working very closely with. We are still very far off as there have been numerous difficulties but we have been powering through them as they have come up.
With that said, the following is a glimpse of the process with more to come in the following weeks/months until he has been completed.
The Great Beast stands at roughly 7' 6"tall, is almost 5' wide, suit weighs about 60 lbs. has fully articulating hands and has a very intricate cooling system. Once completed it will be trimmed and airbrushed to further highlight the musculature, etc...
Without further ado... Tanaraq, the Great Beast AKA Sasquatch!!!

Well done. I think I saw this somewhere else and we talked about your discussion with Logan Allen about his Sasquatch.
Loving this build. I'm working on an oversized costume myself and this gives me joy to watch. So many times people on this and other forums are quick to say large costumes can't be done, but you're powering through and proving them wrong.
Great work! Which cons are you going to go to?

Thank you for the kind words, the build is changing somewhat as it proved impossible to find matching long and short hair. I scrapped the full fur suit for what I feel will not only work better but might look better too. We just removed all the fur and adhesive from the body and are airbrushing it to match the long hair. As a result, the musculature really pops and the details come to life. Something I wasn’t so sure of with the previous iteration without a lot of trimming and airbrushing.
People really get excited about the big suits and to be honest I really love the character and want to get him some recognition. I plan on bringing him to the upcoming NYCC and possibly LACC. Actually I hope it comes out so good that I want to attend as many events as possible.
Wish you the best with your build too!!!

No worries. If I finish mine and go to LACC (more probable than NYCC for me) then perhaps we can arrange a face-off.

The body sans the fur... Will be adding the new hair soon and defining with some airbrushing.

Sometimes things happen for a reason… I was disappointed when the full fur attempt didn’t work but this is coming out great!

This is absolutely stunning work! I still remember the day that I bought the first issue of Alpha Flight off the stands! Sasquatch and Puck were SO awesome!

Thank you, I'm thrilled as to how it's coming along! That first issue still resonates with me even today! It was a very, very good team. Somehow everyone just clicked, Byrne was a master storyteller.

It is done but, still working on the cooling system and the transparent red lenses for the eyes. I should have it ready mid September. Presently, learning how to walk on stilts!
