Samurai / Ninja Demon mask

Hi there!!! I always had a crush for mempo masks, and the upcoming 47 Ronins movie fed my desire to make one. Besides this, some time ago I did read a Daredevil story, where a character named Yutaka, from The Hand ninja clan, wore a similar mask.

As I was tired of pep files, I decided to make my own sculpting, inspired by the traditional mempo and Yutaka masks. Consider it as a free interpretation of the subject. This is my very first serious attempt in sculpting something. Now, I intend to create a character based on this mask.

A friend of mine has asked me to try to make some paintball mask; I think it can be adapted for this purpose.

Made in plastiline, molded in silicone and copied in fiberglass.

:thumbsup The result is great! & I agreed with the idea of "Pep-files." Sometimes we rather like create our own stuff without templates.

Thank you!!! And creating our own stuff avoid any kind of problem with copyright or flamewars..... Actually, I am liking so much this approach!

hey dude im set to make A mortal kombat mask out of plastiline just wondered when you mold it in liquid silicone is the clay knowing it doesnt dry still hold it own through the casting process..and you say you used fibre glass which I know is really sticky and gloopy how did you manage to get such A true pressed copy pf the clay one? I was thinking of using smoothcast would the fibreglass option but cheaper and just as good? also I know from sculpting my last mk mask off of resin onto the surface of A pep file and the inside was such A mess the sanding was tedious?? obviously youve produced something very fine and id like to know how? THANKS : )

Well, my sculpt had some negative angles, which didn't survive after removing the silicone from the mother. It was a "one shot, one kill" mold-making process. About casting with fiberglass, it is no problem at all. First, I fill all "hole" parts (like the nose) with resin or rondo (depending on my mood and materials available), and any excess is spread with slush cast movements, by hand. After have a slight coat of recently dried resin inside the mold, I put the fiber (more resin over the fiber is needed). About the finishing, as long as you put effort in a good finishing in the mother piece, your cast will come out just as fine. Sometimes I got some casting failures, but I usually correct it with bondo and dremel. Nothing to worry too much about.

P.S.: Save one of your cast pieces in the case you need a new mother in the future... ;)
