Saber How to?

BYB has been around for ages and has some of the best hardware saber tutorials on the net.

I've used quite a few of them and made some custom sabers for friends of mine over the years.

Have fun and post the results when you're done.

I built many a hardware saber that was inspired by BYB. Somewhere he posted pics of a ninth model, but it never got posted on his site. From what I remember it was quite nice.

Ares - building "sink tube" sabers can be a TON of fun... you can come up with your own designs and just have a blast. To give you an idea... this is the first saber I made... almost every single part was purchased at either walmart or home depot... and the only tool I had to use was glue! No powertools of any sort.

Sorry I don't have a tutorial for this one but just give it a try... all it takes is a little time and creativity and you can really have a great time! I'd reccomend 1 and 1/4" pipe for a childs saber... 1 and 1/2" for an adult.

Have fun and don't forget to post some pictures when you're done!

I used the Big Yellow Box instructions for Style V (similar to the Obi-Wan Kenobi saber in ANH) as a guide when I built my first saber. After it was finished, I wasn't impressed with the fact that it looked like a hardware store saber, so I replaced the pommel with an AS replica, a replica Graflex clamp for the activator, and a replica emitter from Evilbay. It looks much better now. :cool

I made a style VIII (these are all hardware sabers I made a long time ago.)

I was impressed how non-hardware it looked.

To this day I look for those shower heads (found mine at Ace Hardware after months of searching) to no avail. I can think of TONS of hardware projects that could use that shower head.

I've never been able to get this site to work. When I click on choose a saber to build a frame opens that says lightsabers and that's it. Anybody else have this problem?

This is what happens when I click choose a saber

Looks like you have an error on the page after. I have tried it in FF and IE 7 both on XP and Windows 2003 server. I think you have your security setting too high for your browser see if you have java enabled as well. Yeah looking at the source code of the page that image requires java, I bet you java is not enabled for your browser.

I did the steps you sent me in the pm. Even after disabling it still doesn't work. All of the other menus work for me. Just not that one. Oh well. No big whoop.

yep... building sabers is fun! I built a Obi ANH style saber entirely out of parts from my grandparents basement. Many say it looks much better than most other scratch-builds and one SW fanatic said it coulda been used as the hero prop if it was made in '76-'77. It is mostly complete... but I hope to improve on it one day... it's also broken in some spots thanks so my youngest brother:angry, so it needs repairing on top of that.

I also have a Dooku scratch-build that's been WIP for about a year.... just never got around to finishing it. and now I gotta repaint it cuz the chrome paint is chipping in places .... *sigh*

I have others that I've either built for friends or for myself, but they are all WIP.

Good luck with your scratch-built saber adventures! I hope you enjoy doing them :)

I made one from there and ended up making another one that was a double bladed saber. You can see it in the top of this picture!

Big Yellow Box is almost un-usable now. You have to..complete a "survey" to use the site, so all the instructions are inaccessible, does anyone know where else they could be?

I made an Obi Wan Episode 1 style from this site, worked great! maybe I'll post pics, how do you do that?

Hello there,

Get a free Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket account and use the IMG code at the bottom of your uploaded picture, copy it and then paste that IMG code here in your text.

Nice custom lightsabers hilts, gentleman!

The TCSS and Fx boards are by far the best resource. I've been building custom sabers for a long time. If you want light and sound, those are the places you should be visiting.
