Rubies Collector Edition Biker Scout Helmet

Hello all!!!

A fellow collector and co-worker of mine were discussing our SW props the other day and I mentioned wanting to add a Biker Scout helmet to my wall. He mentioned the Rubies Collector edition that he had and said it was pretty good for the price. I am not a purist and do need need absolute screen accuracy in my props, though I do like them to be as close as reasonably possible without investing a small fortune.

I did a little homework and hesitated for several months because most of the videos out there tend to be from 2006 -20012 when these were apparently made from much weaker more pliable materials. I could only find 1-2 videos from recent years and to me with the tweaks I mention below, they don't look bad, but video can be deceiving. He stated the one he bought a year or so ago, still has some flex to it but not bad, and the difference when comparing to a $400 EFX version is not so different, or at least $300 worth of difference.. I would like some of your thoughts if any of you have bought or handle this helmet, what are the shortcomings and problems they may have.

I know I can fiberglass the inside with a thin layer to stiffen it, clear coat it, (which appears to make a huge difference) and add some weathering to it. I don't plan to wear it, only display in my SW themed office at home.

Any help would be appreciated!

I would suggest getting an Altmann or NewImage helmet if budget is a factor. Those are the most affordable Scout helmets at around $350. The cheapest I've ever seen the EFX is $500 a couple times on ebay. I would not recommend the EFX one for any amount of money unless they fix the visor.

The Rubies doesn't look bad at all for the price, at least based on more recent Amazon review photos of it. Like you said, reinforcing it would be the best thing to do. The snout should be removed and replaced with a new one. It seems like it's part of the helmet, not a separate piece. I would also remove the foam inside the ears and paint the area black or line the helmet with black fabric.
