Rubber - What Philippine Cosplayers Are All About

I believe the stuff you are using is cross-linked polyethylene which is similar to EVA but not quite the same. It's very popular among cosplayers overseas and some here in the US.

Cross-linked polyethylene is the stuff Crocs are made of and can be bought easily in sheets in the US in varying thicknesses.

It is thermo-formable, yet heat resistant, durable, waterproof, etc. In many cosplay cases, it is made into the desired piece and then covered with something like vinyl or fabric. It can be painted as well.

Example:

This is polyethylene covered with metallic gold spandex. The sword as well. This is not my costume.

I've been using this stuff along with polyolefin for a while now.

Ryu

Hi Ryu, can u provide the source of your gold spandex... I Wanted to try the Gold vinyl from mjtrends, but it doesnt stretch as I would want it to and It doesnt come in that same color of the exemple u showed. As I call, Solar Gold.

Next time I visit my mom's side of the family I hope theres a convention or something going on! They live in Manila, Signal Village in Taguig to be exact.

It's a foam rubber, not really like to ones used in crocs, more like the ones used in soles for beach sandals or those puzzle mats I've seen used here. I get mine at a shoe supplier store in Manila, costs vary depending on the thickness - the 2mm costs about Php 50 (approx USD 1.25) for a 2 x 2 sq mtr sheet, the 5mm costs about Php 100 (approx USD 2.5) for the same size. I'll add a map with a GPS location (for better accuracy) next time I go there. I've done a kid's IM mk 6 and a pretty nice robin from YJ (my cousin like 'em, even though he doesn't really cosplay and I just like making it).

i guess this is the same thing i got for mine here in Kuala Lumpur/ Malaysia. I bought it at shoe repair supplier store. rm18 / 6sgd for 4mm ( 4.5ft x 2.5ft ) . 5mm is almost twice more expensive and dont let me started on how expensive is 10mm .. phew
