RowlandFX

Recently had a run in with RowlandFX aka Dragonbornjedi aka Jeremy/Joshua Rowland. I suspect the double first name is due to him scamming people and having problems keeping a legit shop open. I don’t think he’s on this forum but he was recently selling on Etsy and Instagram.

I purchased a couple of cast helmets from this guy about 2 months ago through Etsy. Gave me the runaround about shipping, claimed he was in the hospital, then made promise after promise that he would ship them. Eventually he claimed to ship them but when I asked my local post office about it they said he only scanned shipping labels at a self service kiosk but never dropped any physical packages off. (a common scam according to them)

When I asked for a refund he gave me a sob story and asked if I could wait as he didn’t have the funds or if he could make 2 more and ship them because “the post office lost them”, I opted for the latter because I try to give people a chance to rectify a mishap or misunderstanding.

He then promptly closed his shop.

I wasn’t the only person this dude has pulled this with, so I filed a claim and luckily I got my money back.

The helmets in question were recasts of MF helmets with MFs permission, but in my cursory research I’ve found that MFs own casts are supposedly recasts that were done without permission, which doesn’t sit well with me. I may be mistaken about MF being a recaster, if someone could confirm or deny it that would be great.

Anyways I’d avoid RowlandFX / Jeremy Rowland at all costs, nothing but excuses and zero follow through.

Etsy is usually very good when it comes to siding with customers when you open a case. Glad you got your money back.

Foot in mouth.

I have to change my tune and clear the air about RowlandFX. After his shop closed suddenly overnight I had a knee jerk reaction thinking the above theories were true; that I had been scammed or had lost the money I’d paid for a helmet made by Jeremy. I quickly requested a refund claiming I’d been had, upset and certain the incredible helmet was way too good to be true. I was promptly refunded.

However, not an hour later Jeremy reached out to explained what had happened and his shop shutting down was a surprise to him as well. He apologized for the massive confusion with compassion, and was very accommodating in moving forward with my helmet which he truly had been working on. He even provided a progress photo with a piece of tape bearing my name at my request. We exchanged numbers in order to maintain better contact via text. He helped me trust the legitimacy of his work and has maintained great communication and understanding of the unfortunate and unfair RowlandFX shop situation since then.

He texted me a photo of my completed helmet today, exactly when he said he would have it done by and it looks incredible. It ships out Monday.

It’s important that I clear the air about the situation and Jeremy / RowlandFX. I was wrong and reacted impulsively. He’s insanely talented and is absolutely not nefarious or scamming anyone. I’m excited to own a piece by RowlandFX and anyone reading this should be too.

I’ve been scammed by him as well. Exact same thing - he cancelled dispatch of the item. I tried resolving it via email and he promised to remake the item but it’s been radio silence for months. Unfortunately because of his stalling and empty promises (and also me losing track of time), it’s been over 180 days since my order so neither Etsy nor my bank will refund me.

Quick update.

My helmet arrived exactly when he said it would. The communication remained really good throughout the remainder of the process and Jeremy did everything he could to help ease any concerns about the validity of the order. Videos, photos, shipping receipts and even a video clip of him actually dropping the box off at UPS.

Because his Etsy shop had been shut down, we agreed upon PayPal payment once complete. Once he sent a couple videos showing the helmet and it’s means of connecting I offered to send 25% to secure the order in good faith until it arrived, wherein I would pay the remaining 75% plus shipping. He refused and said to just pay him once I received the helmet which was really what solidified my trust in this transaction.

The helmet arrived, we maintained communication throughout and it was beautiful! The unfortunate part of the entire ordeal is that part of the helmet had began slight splitting likely due to improper handling by UPS, and a piece broke later that evening. Jeremy helped figure out the best way to reconnect with the right adhesives and was incredibly apologetic although it wasn’t his fault. The helmet has held up good since, but he wanted to make it right and has offered to replace the helmet.

It’s upsetting that some others haven’t had the same experience as I ultimately had with Jeremy / RowlandFX, and I hope that my experience becomes commonplace with his future customers going forward. I hope previous issues were terrible misunderstandings and/or unintentional improper handling of difficult situations. All I can speak on is my positive experience and my overall personal redemption of Jeremy.

I’m glad you received your order, as his stuff does look nice. But once a scammer always a scammer.

I do have to point out that you don’t get two Etsy stores shuddered and multiple people complaining about being scammed through “unintentional improper handling of difficult situations”

Scanning packing slips and not mailing packages to make someone believe you mailed something seems pretty intentional to me. Having to use a different name seems pretty intentional.

Also very weird timing of your posts. You pop up out of nowhere after these complaints start happening and you have a wonderful experience with this dude?

I can only speak from my experience with an order. If there’s a place for negative experiences or justified complaints then there’s room for positives too. I thought initially when his store closed that I was being scammed after reading the beginning of this thread, as I had an open order via his Etsy shop. I got refunded. He didn’t have to respond, he didn’t have to make my helmet, I said if you are actually making it, I want proof and I will need communication and proof maintained as my trust in the order had been shaken. I also said if that’s an issue, or it’s not going to happen as promised then I’ve been refunded and we can walk away from this. He kept his word and fulfilled all requests.

So as I said, I had a positive experience and I hope that anything going forward resembles my experience with Jeremy. Customers deserve to get their orders and receive proper communication and business practices and not be lead on or deceived.

I want to add an amendment to my previous comment.
After my post, Jeremy reached out to me. He stated that it was an honest mistake that he missed my previous email, and offered to either refund me or remake the item.
I chose to get a refund, which appears to have now been received.
I can’t comment on anyone else’s issues, but I am very appreciative that he was able to help me in the end.

Sounds like he’s trying to do the right thing which is commendable.

He may not be a scammer in every sense of the word, seems more like he got too many orders and couldn’t keep up.

You see it happen time and time again with makers who keep open orders. They don’t know their own limits and their customers ultimately end up paying the price. Instead of being honest and admitting they’re way behind they find every excuse as to why its not done and that it will “definitely be done soon” The worst of them tuck tail and disappear, never trying to do right by their customers.

Hopefully the guy gets it all straightened out because hes got some great stuff. I just don’t like when people do dirty business, intentionally or not.

Same as tloren, Jeremy reached out and made things right with a refund. He acted as a professional in the end and I can only pay tribute to that
