Hi, folks, newb here!
I just recently bought a Rubie's Supreme Vader mask which I'm planning to modify and accurize to the RotJ look. I've never done anything like this before, although I make small-scale models, so I thought why not. I'm not looking for a 100% accurate look (otherwise I wouldn't have picked the Rubie's), but a piece for my display cab that says "decent looking Vader mask". I'm currently still in the process of gathering tons of reference pictures and reading what I can on the topic. This place seems to be a great source of info, I spent weeks here reading all the different topics, there are however a few questions I haven't found any info about:
-in the film Vader seems to be wearing two different types of hero buckets: there's one polished, glossy in the first half and in the second half when he meets Luke on Endor til the end he has a duller, dustier one. Is that a different mold or just a different finish? Can I use images of either version as consistent references?
-I read in a lot of places that the RotJ mask has "thicker lower lip" than the ESB one. Now I'm aware of the stunt mask with the really fat lip which is shown in close-up just before he grabs Palps, but are the hero masks have slightly thicker lips than the ESB? I don't really seem to notice it, maybe I just don't have the eye for it yet...
-I also noticed (especially on the Reveal) that there is a perforated mesh or grill behind the lenses, but as far as I can tell it's not diamond or triangle shaped, but rather dotted. Anyone found a proper mesh for that? I was thinking of a speaker grill from an old radio, but can't really find proper reference pictures about the hole sizes.
-plus for those who modified or studied the Rubie's (I've read a dozen threads about that here): is the chin vent big enough? compared to my reference pictures it seems a bit small for me, but then again my eyes could be playing tricks on me, cause I've never seen anyone cutting it up and enlarging it.
Thanks for the replies!
