I was going to order a tricorder mark x kit from roddenberry.com and was just wondering if anybody else on this board has had any dealings with them before? If so I was just wondering about shipping times and the conditions of there products, if there worth it? Thanks very much

Definetly can't go wrong with them. Don't know if it's run directly by Rodenberry's family, but they own it, or at least his son does.

Not only that, but the props they sell, I believe, are made by the same people who made props for most of the movies, from Generations to Nemesis.

Yup, it's run by Gene jr. and Majel, and the prop kits are made by HMS Mike and the gang at HMS Creative.

Have no fear, they'll definately hook you up! :thumbsup

I ordered a Dustbuster phaser from them and it got here so fast the box was smoking!!!!!!!!!!!:lol
Beautiful casting too!

I've purchased a few kits from them. They've always been great to deal with. The kits are a great quality too.

Thats great you guys, thanks for the info, they sound like a good company to deal with, cant wait to get my mark x kit!

Rod is GREAT! Very nice kits made by the gang over at HMS. I've purchased and built most of their kits.

Also, some of the best instructions you'll ever get with a prop kit. Lots of pictures and a set of detailed step by step assembly notes.

Can anyone here say how the Rodd props compare to Federation Surplus? They both claim to be made by the same people who made the stuff for the TV shows and movies. Any difference in quality that anyone knows of?

I forget the Federation Surplus board name but he is a member here and everybody loves his work.
HMS studios makes the kits for rod.com, so Im pretty sure that its the same kits.

When I first bought my origianl series communicator, Eugene Roddenberry actually took my order over the phone. Seemed like a great guy.

Yea, if I had money, I would buy everything that fed. surplus offers, there items look so good, and that pretty cool that he would answer the phone and take your order!!!

The TNG era kits I've got from Rodd.com have been pretty tight. Smooth fit of parts, no defects, hollow for electronics. Screen accurate. Hard to find a thing bad to say about 'em. :cool

Here's the raw kit. Emitter cast in clear red, grip in rubber. Held in place with bullet catches for easy battery access.

Cobra phaser, with removable bottom plate for battery access.

Mark VI Science Tricorder. I think the trics are mastered by Ed Miarecki, the phasers by HMS.

TOS "Where No Man Has Gone Before" phaser rifle. I will say one thing about the TOS kits by Roddenberry/HMS. These are accurate to the props as they appeared in the TOS re-creation episode of Deep Space Nine called "Trials and Tribbleations". However they are not completely accurate to TOS itself. Very close but not perfect.

The rifle kit is very nice but HEAVY. I think the original prop must probably have been vacformed. This thing is solid resin and aluminum. :confused

So what is the skill level required for building up one of these Mark Xs (no electronics)?

Are they recommended at all for noobs (like yours truly)?

Thanks,
