At the Academy in San Francisco one of my professors worked at Tippet Studios, and we got to take a tour.

In the main showroom there was the actual stop motion puppet of this guy.

We were told that SO many people copied the original ED-209 that Phil Tippet wanted to do something crazy intricate so that no one else would dare copy it.

So this guy doing this, is a MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENT.

we were allowed to take pictures but we signed a waiver saying we wouldn't.

But in one of the back rooms, they had the LIFE SIZE ED-209 just sitting in the corner in a loft like it was nothing.

I was with Phil only last month and I can testify to everything TxBabyHuey has said. BTW, the full scale model of ED is still where you saw it - there in the corner. As for the waiver, its only really intended to apply to new, unreleased project items and work….

This replica is an astonishing piece indeed and a massive achievement. I have no doubt that if he were to show it to Phil, he would be mightily impressed. Under his tough, no bullsh** exterior Phil's genuinely that kind of guy….!
