Rise of the Planet of the Apes SPOILERS

Man, the screenwriters for that Tim Burton abortion should be taking notes in terms of how to integrate the old and the new.

This one starts with one faction chasing the other through the underbrush, evoking the famous cornfield shots. The orang named "Maurice" (awesome!), the Malfoy dude saying it's a madhouse, "Cornelia," the delta-winged Icarus on the news and then later on the front page as lost...

...as well as telling a satisfying story with beginning, middle, and end. Honestly, if they don't do another, that'd be fine. But dang if I didn't want to see Caesar being Robin Hood, robbing from the culturally rich and giving to the ascendently "poor" in the next one.

Also, thanks for nothing, James Franco's comic relief neighbor. YOU'VE KILLED US ALL.

Yeah, just like they had to give a special Oscar to the 1968 one for achievement in Make-Up, I think they're going to have to create a new category for Making CGI Believably Awesome. If they do Serkis for Best Supporting Actor (as they should) I will plotz.

great news Larry :thumbsup i'm so pleased this movie has come up trumps

can't wait to go see it now

I really liked it, mate. Especially how they incorporated Caesar's speech from Battle, where "a gorilla named Aldo first rose up and said no" with what happened in this one.

I know this is a SPOILER thread, but let's just say it's not Aldo. :lol

to be honest i dont mind spoiler's

I'm just happy that a movie that wasn't hyped up to the max, got slated before it's release and let's face it is following one the most iconic movie's of a generation has suprised hardened movie goer's

hats off to the writer's, director and the cast for pulling it off

Great review Larry! So psyched that the CGI was belieavable and we have a good story to boot!

Gotta order my tickets! Hopefully we will see a sequel down the road.

Do they actually name the Spaceship as the Icarus???
Just curious because it was NEVER really named that. It was given that name by a fan, and has, Unfortunately stuck!(Terrible name, IMHO).

Can't wait to see this myself.

From all the good reviews this thing is getting I bet it gets at least one more sequel as i bet there are plenty more stories to be told. I'm also glad that they did some tributes to the originals. I don't think the writers of the Tim Burton one were even POTA fans.

A great movie! I will definitely get this on bluray. Looking forward to any/all extras on the disc.

I didn't understand your review at all Larry, but now I have to go see this movie. I mean, NOTHING will be as bad as Captain America. Right?
:lol

{runs away laughing}

Just saw it. Brilliant. There's a point in the middle of this movie when you realize English hasn't been spoken for 15 minutes and you've just seen some of the best dialogue that you've seen in recent memory - and you realize you're witnessing something special.

So impressed. The nods to the original movies were great and the not-dumbing-downed-ness of this movie is so refreshing. There's a couple scenes in this movie with subtitles....they weren't even needed.

CGI = ridiculously awesome.

Made me think more than a few times how Hollywood never had the guts to make an Alien movie without humans.

and really...who doesn't want to get the f outta SF on the weekends and hit Muir Woods?
