RIP Film Critic Roger Ebert

Wow - they just announced last night he had another battle with cancer coming up but it looks like it was worse then reported.

I always wanted one of my films to be reviewed on their show - looks like it'll never happen now. So long Roger.

Man I started watching Siskel and Ebert way back on Sneak Previews. They made a great team. I didn't always agree with their reviews but they were entertaining together. RIP Roger.

sneak previews on PBS was mandatory viewing in my childhood in the 70's. :cry he's had a place in my schedule ever since.

man this sucks.

(n)thumbsdown

Sad day.

At least Gene will have some company up there

:cry

Sigh. The one film critic I could trust.
Same here. I can't say I always agreed with his opinions, but I could always understand his perspective when I disagreed. And regardless of whether I agreed or disagreed with his review of a particular movie, at least 95% of the time I could tell whether or not I'd like it.

The one thing I truly appreciated about Roger Ebert was that he wasn't a "snob" about movies--he could review "A list" movies and low-budget schlock with equal enthusiasm and evaluate them based on their own merits. I never met him, but I sure will miss him.

Here!Here! R.I.P. Roger Ebert!

In Chicago, a local radio station came up with "Going to the show" with just a regular guy. It was in direct contrast with S&E.
Mostly comedy and lots of spoilers, a guy with a thick Chicago accent would give spot on movie reviews like "tons of action, i didn't understand the thing but oh my god when the main character gets shot in the face, everybody gets killed, there's a nice scene where that young actress is getting dressed, that's worth the ticket right there..."
Ebert always gave an elite opinion. If it wasn't Citizen Kane he trashed it.
His worst movie of all time is Armageddon! Do I need to say more?

I always read his movie reviews first and trusted them above all others. He was a very talented writer and a good person. May he RIP.
