Revenge of the Jedi

Hey Guys and Gals,

So I just came back from an estate sale for a filmmaker in Los Angeles where I managed to pick up around 5 Revenge of the Jedi crew t-shirts (in different colors), along with a Marin County shooting unit shirt and a creature ILM shirt, original magician ILM shirt (really cool), an Empire Strikes Back crew shirt, a Martinez Electric shirt and an ILM AT-AT shirt. Any idea what any of these are worth (or where I could find out)? I've seen estimates go from $100 to $800. They're all original and all are in mint/near mint condition.

I'd be curious, what would you value them at?

Bear in mind this is a completely subjective valuation as I have no idea what the going rate for T-shirts is, but assuming they're originals I'd say somewhere in the $75.00 range maybe. Something is worth exactly what someone else is willing to pay so there in all likelihood is someone out there somewhere who'd give you far more than that because that's exactly what they've been searching for. That's how this quirky business works. :lol

But really, great finds there and best of luck to you if you decide to sell them.

No offense is meant but I think you may have trouble proving their authenticity.

Yeah, there's the rub. A collector would pay big bucks if you could prove that they are authentic, though I'm not sure how you woud do that with these. There are just so many great replica t-shirts out there made from the same vintage materials and iron-ons it very difficult to tell the difference.

Hurm...

Maybe I could get a certificate of authenticity from the company that held the estate sale? They also deal in celebrity auctions (and semi-recently sold an original Batman Returns cowl). I totally understand that people would be skeptical, but there's got to be some way of authenticating them... The guy WORKED on Star Wars.

With out a letter from his widow or something about like that, it will still be hard. Those are perhaps one of the easiest items to fake.

One thing you might do, edit out your photos to hide the actual labels and tags. Those could be a "tell."

However, one I noticed is in a decidedly modern female "baby doll" tee shape and its tag reads "JM Collectables." Were originals made by that company?

Hello mercureyx.
Nice pick-up on the ILM shirts. The shirts you have are pretty expensive nowadays, the ROTJ creature shop I'm sure would sell for at least $350, the Wind-Up AT-AT sells for over $300 also. Is the ESB Martinez Electrical shirt still in your possession? I'd be interested in purchasing it.
