Revamped Vampire Batman finished.

Hi, last year i made a vampire hunter-turned vampire, batman costume for comic con. I'm going to try to revamp it for this year... kind of last minute. A lot of the original suit was trashed and i really don't like leaving my projects unmodified if they are to be used again. I guess so that i can kind of explain what i was going for...i wanted to sculpt a batman cowl that was more organic and was more aggressive. I decided to do a vampire hunter batman that had become infected while on the job. I figured it would be a cool way to keep some of the vampire hunting tools as well as some of the vampire characteristics i wanted to add to the suit. I wanted to make it seem as if the suit it'self had been infected. So i had to decided how far to morph the suit and the man underneath without going overboard. Hope that helps, please let me know what you think of the over all idea as well as the execution of the suit.

I will begin by showing the gloves and gauntlet process.
I sculpted up some "horns" to replace the 3 spikes or whatever they are called on batman's gloves. I know horns aren't bat related but they worked visually.
I kept the same leather gauntlets from last year but i poured up new "horns" f in a more brown-flesh tone color. Last year they were black and though they worked i think they were over looked and lost in the overall suit.

I suck at sewing so i had a good friend sew up some gloves for me. I just wanted them to have heavy stitching and pointed fingers. They are the same material that will be used for the cape later. Last year i had an elongated finger ripping out of the pointer finger on each glove but i got lazy and didn't want to sculpt a new one. But the gloves work well especially once the gauntlets are placed on them.

Re: Revamped Vampire Batman W.I.P

Even though it feels like im talking to myself i'll continue with the stakes. :lol Last year i made a set of "wooden" stakes that fit into a nice holder that hooked to the belt and strapped around my thigh. This year i figured if go for silver stakes. Similar to those in Blade but i'd add a cross to them. I molded a small cross and poured it up in clay, i then formed it around the pvc i used and then molded it again and ended up using bondo for the final piece. They will be held in a shot gun shell holder that goes over a belt. The overall look should be cleaner and look as if someone with money acquired them.

Re: Revamped Vampire Batman W.I.P

Thanks, yeah im kind of anxious to see how it turns out too. A lot more to sculpt.

Re: Revamped Vampire Batman W.I.P

It's made up. People compared it to the Crimson Mist batman when i wore it last year. But there are quite a few differences. Im just trying to combine different elements id like to build.

Re: Revamped Vampire Batman W.I.P

I began sculpting the chest and ribs for the under suit. Last year i sculpted a chest and ribs to go under the suit so that the shapes would show under the spandex. It worked but i couldn't find a way to successfully adhere them to the spandex. I sculpted far too many low points i think. So im sculpting a much softer version with less indents. I should be done soon and hopefully have pics. It's just too damn hot here to be working.
The clasps i ordered came in though. Im going to use these little bats to attach the cape to the shoulders/neck piece i will be sculpting...soon i hope.

The only thing that kinda kill those little bats up above is their pot bellies. Oh well, if anyone asks i'll just say they're full of blood. Big o'l blood bellies.

Ok, so i finished the chest today. It's quick and dirty. I don't need any detail since it will be under the suit. I just need the shapes. I need to mold it and pour it up in self skinning foam. I didn't use the self skinning kind last year and it wasn't comfy at all. Itched like a s.o.b.

mind the nomadic goat and batman cowl from last year in the background...

Re: Revamped Vampire Batman W.I.P

Pretty sweet take on TDK... really diggin the vamp version... reminds me of the '89 Movie "They say he drinks blood..." Keep the updates coming!

Re: Revamped Vampire Batman W.I.P

Thanks, i appreciate that. Ha i never thought of that. Good one!

Re: Revamped Vampire Batman W.I.P

I haven't made much progress due to finals and other time consuming things so i'll just post some recent pictures of the mask from last year. Sadly i don't have time to sculpt a new cowl. I wanted to do a much better version and try a more leather like texture. But oh well. I'm just going to have to pour up a new one. The new one won't be shinny like this one. I just wanted to see if a new sealer would flex. It kinda does...

Im also going to be using the same eyes. I am interested in getting some new ones but these worked perfectly. If i had tons of money to blow i'd get a really nice pair from 9mm. Oh well, but if anyone out there has any suggestions for some cool eyes do let me know, assuming anyone is checking this out. :confused

Re: Revamped Vampire Batman W.I.P

For the teeth i used Dental Distortions. They are a really good product. I would highly recommend them. They really add an extra touch to any character you are trying to create. I have about 4 pairs of them. I ended up using the Lucius pair. It's based off the lycan teeth from the Underworld movies. Im going to use caps instead of veneers this year i think. Here are some pics from some tests i did with the different dental distortions teeth, only the top teeth were used because it's far too complicated to talk, let alone close your mouth with both uppers and lowers on.

Re: Revamped Vampire Batman W.I.P

Wow....this is great looking. Are the steaks going to be on the utility belt? And any idea on the cape? I think a veiny leathery look would be freaking sweet with this!

Re: Revamped Vampire Batman W.I.P

Thanks Superz. They are going to be on a 2nd belt that will be somewhat under the heavy traditional canvas utility belt. Im probably going to keep the same bat buckle and big cross that i had last year. Ditto. I wish i had the time to sculpt a big sheet with veins and leathery skin texture to make into a latex cape. Im going to be using the same material i did last time. It's the same as the gloves i posted. It looks nice and textured but is just a heavy fabric. Looks similar to aged leather.

Re: Revamped Vampire Batman W.I.P

Thanks. No, no wings. I don't want to have to build a harness to go under the suit and wings always get in the way. I was tempted to sculpt some hands that were in the process of morphing into wings but i don't want to lose the ability to use my hands. It's kind of a trade off, look cool and be useless or look a lil less cool and be able to use your hands.
