Return to Oz props

You could buy a standard skeleton key at any place that has keys (IE wal-mart, home depot) and some Precious Metal Clay, then sculpt the O on the head after cutting the original head off, and modifying the teeth... but the gold PMC is really expensive.

Besides that, and making a resin version and getting it chromed/chrome painted, I have no idea.

the gold plated keys pop up on eBay periodically but they are not cheap.

There have been a few keys at ebay.

Last June, I had the chance to visit the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, Ca. I went to see some cool movie props, at the archives, but I never imagined I'd be face to face with the actual key, Tic-Toc's green medal, the actual ruby slippers, Dorothy's lunch bucket and the powder of life canister. Not that I touched them, but, for being an obscure film hardly any one remembers, I was surprised they had these items on display, and not buried in some warehouse to rot.

They told me they had the original Tic Toc stored, some where.

I'm meeting Fairuza Balk in October, wheeeee!!

What I wouldn't give for a cleaner shot of the powder of likfe container . . .

And it's so great to see Tik Tok still around! I must resist the urge to build one!!

I too would love to see some cleaner photos of the powder of life container...been itching to replicate the label for the Free Paper Props area.

The original Tik-Tok is set up in one of the atriums over in the Technical Building at Skywalker Ranch...

This picture is from the site linked above, but I saw it in person last month and got to look at it up close - very cool prop...

I saw that, at that site, too, but that's not what the Disney people told me.

I've been told so much crap about Tic-Toc, I won't care until I see it with my own eyes. They told me he used to be at Disney's MGM creature shop, but I never saw him in the 100 times I took the tour. Never saw a creature shop, either.

Well, I did see it with my own eyes... :) Here's the picture I took three weeks ago:

Do you know if the Brass Tic Toc, beaten helmet Tic Toc and this one are the same? Although I like SW, seeing this Tic Toc would be the highlight of my visit to the ranch.

That I couldn't tell you... I'm not an expert on Oz stuff, by any means - although I did recently have to build and animate an CG version of Tik-Tok (based more on the original books, and not this version) for Jordan Weisman's new company's logo animation...

I would guess that the shiny brass one was a separate outfit... it's been a while since I saw the film, but I believe the helmet is a separate piece, so they could have just replaced it - was there other damage to him that I'm not remembering?

The one Disney had in the 'creature shop' at MGM was the one from their parade float. The float caught on fire during a parade shop fire and tik tok was the only thing that didn't get destroyed. He's built to the original specs, but has some extra lighting effects that were designed for the parade float. He was present in the shop as recently as 2002, when I worked at Disney, but can't say anything on his present whereabouts. At one point they were packing a lot of things out of that area and sending them to storage at Disney's Orange Warehouse in Kissimmee...he may be there now. Don't know for sure.

I am planning on making a full size replica of Tik-Tok. I'd like the size of this to be as close as possible to the actual versions used in the film, but I'm unsure how to get an accurate idea of the size of the original. Does anyone have any ideas?

I know that there are some copies of Tik-Tok's front badge which are moulded from the original version. If anyone has one of these, I'd love to know the exact measurements. I could then use this to work out some measurements based on the relationship between the bage and Tik-Tok's body size. Hope this makes sense.

I remember as a child being fascinated with Return to Oz and Tic Toc stands out in my mind very much. Would love to see someone replicate him.

Oh boy, I hope that was a new Smith and Tinker animation for them to put out with a new Mechwarrior 5 teaser.

Sorry, I have a Battletrack...I mean one-track mind on that stuff. :lol

Anyone know where to find a replica of Mombi's Ruby Key? I have loved this movie ever since I was a child, and my love for this film has only grown more with age.

I found a website that makes laser cut keys, and you can have them done in a clear red acrylic, but you have to have your design outline made and I can't seem to make this happen. Any thoughts?
