***RESOLVED*** e-Bay auction [possible] beware...

Someone is selling an "Albion" Atlantean sword HERE. (my understanding is that live auction links are OK if one is giving a heads-up to the community; if not, Mods feel free to edit it out)

HOWEVER, the main picture he is using to sell the item is NOT an Albion, but a Marto. I know this because it is a photo of MY Marto, on the floor of MY spare 'oom. He got the photo from my yourprops page HERE. He didn't even bother to edit my Username out of the photo before using it.

I've messaged him to ask him to remove the picture, he hasn't yet responded. I'm hoping he just liked the picture & didn't notice that it wasn't an Albion (even though I clearly state that it isn't on my page).

/FYI

Re: e-Bay auction [possible] beware...

Very possible that this seller took the other 2 pics from someone else as well as it's pretty obvious that the pics are of at least 2 different swords.
If he/she were able to take pics of the actual item for sale, why couldn't they take a full shot?

Re: e-Bay auction [possible] beware...

Thanks for the heads up!
Your sword photos are famous, I remember someone on the conan forum a while back posting your Fathers sword pic to show their new sword.lol

Re: e-Bay auction [possible] beware...

I know it's bad form, but this stupidity made me LOL. Sorry Nexus6. :$

Re: e-Bay auction [possible] beware...

N6 contact ebay and let them know that it's not his pic. They take a very dim view of item misrepresentation these days and will deal with him. I had someone sell me a prop a while back that wasn't the item pictured and the seller got hammered by ebay.

Plus if he's not got a pic who's to say he's even got the item to sell?

I had planned to do that this evening if he didn't comply.

On that note, how would I go about "contacting e-Bay" (I've never done it); is it the 'Report Item' link, or is there a different way? :confused

Re: e-Bay auction [possible] beware...

Log in and report item link.
I just had to do it today! Some guy was selling a digital camera but had already sold it off-site (another big ebay no-no and something that stung me in the past).
There's different options to select but there should be one thats right. You get to put in a description of the issue at the end.

Re: e-Bay auction [possible] beware...

I sent him this message last night.

Hello,
Could you take newer pics of your sword for sale
in this auction?
It appears that there are at least 2 different
swords pictured in the three that were posted.
The full shot is of the Marto version.
I'm a big fan of this replica prop sword and can
see the difference.

Thanks.

and this was his response

Yes, sorry, being lazy. will post as soon as I figure our how
:rolleyes

That's interesting. Here's what I sent him last night:

Hello. The main picture you are using to sell this sword is NOT an 'Albion', it is a 'Marto'. I know this because it is MY Marto on the floor of MY spare bedroom. The only place I posted this photo was in my online museum here:

http://www.yourprops.com/Atlantean-...ps-Conan-the-Barbarian--1982--prop-22860.html

The photo you are using still has my Username on it. I'm hoping that this was a mistake on your part, as opposed to some kind of attempt at deception. It does raise questions as to the authenticity of your piece though, so I'm respectfully asking that you remove my photo from your auction. Thanks.

AND here's the response he sent me:

Yes, sorry, being lazy. will post as soon as I figure our how

Ergo, I am filing a report now.

Re: e-Bay auction [possible] beware...

Sounds like he was trying for a "bait and switch" before he got rumbled.

Re: e-Bay auction [possible] beware...

That is funny..... I wrote him last night as well asking to see the sword he is selling, as I was interested in buying. He wrote back: "the item being sold is shown on the auction page". So I wrote back that the item on the auction page is not his sword, that it belongs to Nexus6 on yourprops.com. I asked if he actually has a sword, because I wouldn't be willing to bid a large amount on an item I wasn't sure he had.... and he gave me the same answer:
"Yes, sorry, being lazy. will post as soon as I figure our how - rbanksg"
So he is an obvious lier, until he is called out, then he just says he doesn't know how to post a picture. With a feedback score of 90, he obviously has been around ebay enough to know how to post a photo. I mean, he knew how to upload the photos he stole, so the only part he doesn't understand is how to click a photo on a camera?? Bull*hit!!

Re: e-Bay auction [possible] beware...

Okay, just received word back a few minutes ago from the seller. They haven't said a word for two days, then they sent the following:

"Hi there. Nexus6 has been on to me too. Apologies for the mix up. this was down to pure laziness on my part and the fact that I only have a shoddy camera phone. I've put two new pics so you can see it is an Albion sword (again, apologies for the poor quality shots). I completely understand your concerns regarding the fraud factor and hope this hasn't got us off on the wrong foot. My star rating is 100 percent positive so hopefully that will instill some trust in me. Thanks for looking.
rbanksg"

While they do appear to have a sword to sell, they still will not remove Nexus6's riginal photos which is against the Ebay Policy.

Re: e-Bay auction [possible] beware...

Here is what I just got from him:

Hi there. first of all my apologies for blatantly ripping off your pics (very nice, by the way). This was down to pure laziness and lack of technology on my part. You'll see that I have new (poor quality phone pics) photos up. However, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to remove your pics. I have therefore put on a disclaimer referencing the fact that pics 1 and 3 are for reference due to my poor camera. I hope this is OK for you. If not, I will cancel the auction to appease you. Let me know.

Kind Regards,

rbanksg

I don't have any idea how to take this. Seems like he's just kind of clueless. Think I should let it sit, or tell him I want him to end the auction?

Re: e-Bay auction [possible] beware...

Crap.... you know what, I recall trying to remove a photo once before myself. I believe, once a bid has been made, you can no longer edit any original content and no longer remove (or even adjust the order of) any photos. You can only add photos or add info below what you already posted. I guess it is their security against someone changing the listing on people who already bid, and tricking them into buying something other than what was originally listed. So maybe this guy is being genuine and would remove them if he could?? Who knows.....

But it is your call, you are in the right to ask him to remove the auction and relist if you want. Or, since he already has bids, and put the disclaimer, you can let it go and just call this post "Done". Either way, no one will blame you for your deciscion. I am just glad it will have a somewhat happy outcome.

Re: e-Bay auction [possible] beware...

It seems genuine IMHO

I can tell you one thing, I feel for this guy. I don't think I could handle selling my Albion. I waited over 20 years for my holy grail...it would break my heart.

Re: e-Bay auction [possible] beware...

I messaged him & told him I was OK with leaving the auction, since he added photos along with the disclaimer that the main pic was not the actual item for sale.

So as far as I'm concerned this thread is 'Mark VII'd'. (bonus of 1000 internets, if you "get it"). :lol

There is another one on ebay right now..search for conan sword.

It is a Marto and the seller lists it as an Albion and copy and pasted the specs and discription right off the filmswords website.

I hate it when people try to con buyers.

Unbelievable. :rolleyes

As their punishment, I should get to smite them with my Thorgrim's Hammer. :D
