I am fairly new to prop making and have been learning by trial and error. I have put in many many hours of research but there is just so much out there when it comes to resin i wanted to pick everyones brains about resin types and prices.
For molding silicone i have been using a shore 28 silicone from a guy in CA that i really like. He is on ebay under the name Areomarineproducts, Cost around $285 for a 5 gallon pail but shipping is $80 so total is over $350.00. I don't have a degasser but if i am carefull the air bubble factor is pretty low.
As for casting resin I like smooth on 300 and roto cast at $81.00 ( 15 for shipping)
For static and display prop i have been using a cheaper resin from a company in MI called Dascar plastic. Cost is $70 a gallon and shipping is around $15.00
It is an off white color when dry and seems pretty damn tuff, but is a tad brittle in thin areas.
Just curious if there is a solid resin out there that is good and cheap? I am just a hobbiest and in this economy every little bit helps.
