Red Letter Media: Avatar review

"And Taco Bell." :lol

He nailed a lot of it. I think he should have left some of the unrelated jokes out though. The thing with the popcorn bucket with bones in it was just dumb. There was enough material to criticise the movie that he didn't have to go so far off base for it.

IMHO, this film is:

I have to say, that besides his funny inserts, his analytic abilities are totally brilliant and specious - I'll also starting to believe, what a member suspect, he's really from the industry. Maybe someone famous. Yeah, I share his opinion and I liked Avatar, but he's right. Also noticed the rednecks and the "Disney Eyes".

Unlike his reviews of Phantom Menace or the weaker Star Trek films, I didn't enjoy his Avatar review so much... possibly because Avatar just isn't that terribly bad.

Yeah it has problems and I was frustrated by it.. and I largely agree with Plinkett's assessment. But Avatar was just kind of, "meh", not the ultimate turd that Phantom Menace was.

It works kind of like "Mystery Science Theater 3000". It's better when the movie sucks more. :lol

Also Plinkett is too self-aware now. He calls back his own bits too much (the basement, "what's wrong with your face", the pizza rolls)... he's in danger of becoming his own parody.

So, weak one this time Plinkett. But I'm still eager to see you sink your teeth into Attack of the Clones. :lol

I liked it, but agree this one had less bite.

And his comment about the Chipmunk movie not being competitive is a bit off - that movie actually did very well over the holidays.

I have been saying this since the time I left the theater the one and only time I saw it. Visually stunning, but smurfahontas was just not that great of a film.

What's wrong with your FAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE? :cry

Plinkett will tell ya! :D

LOL. He's done a T-shirt design of his Plinkett character; it's terrifying. A one-legged wheelchair-bound pantsless nutcase. That's the quote used, of course.

Personally, I liked the review a good deal; bring on Part 2.

Not sure if he's an industry guy but his identity isn't secret, his real name is Stoklasa, I believe. Here he is in one of his other efforts:

Warning, this may be offensive to anyone who is oversensitive about baby dolls being phonily damaged...

This guy needs to do what I always say about the other critics and make a better film and see what people have to say about that.

SERGIO.

Be an investor then - give him half a billion dollars; after all you're the one who wants him to change careers for some reason. Make it worth his while!

Personally, I'm satisfied that he HAS done exactly that. His TPM review is a) video, b) not far off movie length and c) qualifies as a better entertainment in every way than TPM itself was.

Problem sorted.

He does raise an interesting point about Cameron releasing these movies in the winter. No competition what so ever. So, if you offer up decent fare, and Avatar was better than decent, people will come in droves because they have nothing else to do. This could be starting a trend.

I enjoyed his Phantom Menace deconstruction, but found this one quite boring, especially with all the same gags in it.

I got the impression his only gripe was that it was successful.

It's amazingly evident from the responses here that this guy isn't going to sway anyone's opinion.

I find more objectionable in Avatar than I do in TPM. Therefore, I find his Avatar review funnier than his TPM review. Either way, he it's a waste of my time, as even he doesn't take his analysis seriously. The topics he touched on are just the tip of the iceburg of what's narratively wrong with Avatar.

This guy's a lightweight.

It's a pretty good review and he comes to the same conclusion as I do. If you want to watch a film like Avatar there isn't much you won't like.

He also underlines that Cameron did a great job in making this movie appealing to a very broad segment of the population and placing it at a time where there is little competition to go against.

His TPM and Trek reviews reveal that those films suffer from bad writing and very poor internal logic. Avatar is fairly consistent and is plausible on most levels so there isn't that much to deconstruct.

Can't wait for more Star Wars reviews.
