Recreating the original Cylon voice

I just found a series of YouTube videos (8 in all) where a very dedicated BSG fan sets out to reproduce the original BSG Cylon voice as accurately as possible. Turns out the voice was created though recording on tape and going through various sound editing machines and was definitely a product of its times. From the video, it sounds like it's still not possible to faithfully reproduce the sound digitally, the distinct sound (apparently) relies on the quirks of analog machines to faithfully reproduce.

When nu-BSG did classic Cylons, I thought they said in the commentary (or something) that they had used the same synthesizer or whatever. So it's apparently still doable, unless that equipment has died since then.

man, analogue synthesizers are wild business. It's almost as complex and nuanced on how to make some of these sounds as a really touchy baking recipe; one thing different or out of alignment, and your grandma's pound cake comes out as a pudding.

respect to anyone with the patience and passion for this stuff. ooff

Yeah the 2500 and 2600 were beasts!

You can get close on somethings digitally but old school Analog for the most part can not be beat
