Ready Player Two by Ernest Cline set to release this Fall.

Nope.

I enjoyed most of ready player one, but the ending was sooo ex machina it really deflated the accomplishments of Z and the gang. The way Ogden worked in the movie was far superior to his role in the book.

Armada tried to capture the same feel of "lots of nerd stuff", but while ready player one had tons, it was all logical, and well paced, it felt loved. The references in Armada read like a list of pop culture references with unconnected story telling in between.

I think he's gonna have to be a george lucas style guy. the idea man, that other people help to flesh things out.

That was really the problem. Cline is turning out to be a one-shtick wonder. It's all he does. Armada tried to capture the same lightning in a bottle and it didn't do it well. Honestly, we don't need to keep seeing the same thing. Try something new.

I don’t read much these days...but I loved the movie so much that I have preordered this.

From what I’ve heard, this will piggyback off of the movie quite a bit.

So, this is a sequel to the book. The movie is fun. It skips a lot of the detail from the book, but all the same concepts are there (any movie has to trim events from it's book inspiration).

The main difference is how the ending plays out. (Though the big events are the same. Z is in control, ioi defeated, day saved).

In the book.

one of the Asian "brothers" had been murdered by ioi. And Ogden Marrow just kind of sweeps in at the end and says "I've been cheating this whole time, watching you guys, helping you out and such." Then takes them all to his real world guarded compound so ioi can't arest them, and gives them the Best gaming rigs in the world that they use to defeat ioi. It's a real shame. Really removes Z and his friends' agency. The movie did the ending SOOO much better to me.

Fo the book, all Og did was being, essentially, a Dungeonmaster, giving them the necessary items to help them log on. That's it. Since Halliday asked Og to keep an eye on the contest for him, he basically asked him to be a Dungeonmaster for what constitutes as Halliday's last D&D campaign (which serves as a bookends to Halliday and Og's relationship), with the High Five being the campaign players and IOI, basically, being the enemy of the campaign.

Armada was good, but it works better if you think of it as a story written in the RPO story universe (as in someone creating a story that tied into all the nostalgia tripping with VR).

But when it comes to RPO, I've not only suspected that Halliday may have programmed more than one contest, I have also suspected that he faked his death. It can't be a coincidence that Halliday not only references Heathers in Anorak's Invitation, but the fact his First Gate Challenge was playing through the movie WarGames. Both of those films featured fake deaths of important characters (in Heathers, Veronica faked her death so not to be murdered by JD. In WarGames, Falken was faked and he was relocated to his own private property and living comfortably). It'd be the kind of thing that would make sense, as Halliday would want to see who won the Egg Hunt (even more so as it would play in tune with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, in which Willy Wonka was alive when he held his contest. Plus, Halliday could have a remote location set up for himself, like Halliday, and more than enough money and a good OASIS connection to live comfortably. I mean, it's mentioned many users have notice Anorak still wandering about the OASIS. It makes sense Halliday faked his death than to believe that he somehow managed to figure out how to download a copy of his entire brain into the OASIS). In fact, if you notice, no one mentions seeing Anorak, Halliday's avatar, at the challenges (the only person who mentions it is Wade in the story. Not Art3mis, Aech, Daito or Shoto mention seeing Anorak and him handing them the key. They would have at least mentioned it one time about how cool it was. But, no, the only reference to Anorak was after Wade was the first to get the Copper Key. And Anorak wasn't present for the Jade Key handover either). But that's just me, of course.

Also waiting for my copy to be delivered. I wished they made a good movie out of this one. The first movie was a great one for me. (y)

Mine is stated to be delivered on December 2 (originally December 1). FML. :(
Mine arrived today. I am going to start it tonight. I also just found out Wil Wheaton is also doing the audiobook for it as he did a fantastic job with the audiobook version or the original, so I will be getting that for the old mp3 player as soon as I can.

I started it last night.

Definitely interested in the new device and the potential ramifications of it on the world.

I don’t have a ton of time to read, so it’ll probably take me over a week to finish it.

I ordered the book back in July.

The book was released on November 24th as planned.

Amazon didn't send it right away, saying the estimated date of arrival was December 2nd.

I ordered an Oculus Quest 2 from Wal-Mart, got it within two days.

Amazon finally printed the shipping label. Now it says ETA is December 9th.

It took less time for me to order and get the Oculus Quest 2 than it did to get Ready Player Two. And now, I'm waiting for the book to arrive.
