Done / Completed Ready Player One - ALL THREE Keys

Re: Ready Player One - Copper Key and Jade Key

So we (UFMascot & I) were looking through the film, and each of the keys seems to fold out and assemble themselves in mid-air as they are passed from Anorak to Parzival. Luckily it gave a firmer indication of which portions of the key are metal and which are crystal. It appears that more of the key is silver than we initially thought. From what I can tell the only parts that are crystal are the 'snowflake' cuts in the key, the decorative beads on the shaft, and the main crystal cross hatched crystal portion of the key.

We threw an image together that is marked up based on what is metal, and what is crystal. It's a lot easier to see in the actual movie rather than just in stills, as the key assembles itself and materials are easier to read. From this point on in the film, it gets confusing because of all the reflections. I'm going to try to snip a video together for us to review that will just have all of the moments in the film that feature the keys. I'll see what I can get together in the next few days so you can see for yourselves.

Thank you for the observation report, at this point the production method is probably set, since I’m quite satisfied with the look right now. But I certainly look forward to more of your findings!

Regarding shipping, I will use box in the future. Especially for jade and crystal glass. :)

Re: Ready Player One - Copper Key and Jade Key

Copper key came in today in perfect shape. This thing is amazing Kevin! Great work! Can’t wait for the jade key!

How’s the crystal key coming along?

Looking very good.
Are you going to send out the jade keys soon then?

Also I must say I prefer the crystal key with the silver edges even though it might have minor imperfections.
Would that be an option to order as well?

Many thanks.

Looks awesome, and I agree even though the crystal key might have imperfections the silver edging looks REALLY nice!

The problem with going with the crystal as is is that it's not accurate. You have the top metal frame including the loop hook up top, the ringed pieces with the crystal an the metal insertion blade at the bottom. Hate to say it, but It will be the best one available going as is but a badly flawed fragile inaccurate piece.
Beautiful first two keys.

Considering that I'm comparing it with the Funko's plastic key, I'm more than happy with the Glass key. And maybe silver could be added later...

This seems like the most sensible approach for the time being given the amount of trial and error it’s taken to get here.

AdamHunter and I were discussing taking the one-piece glass version to a jeweler and seeing what they could do in terms of physical silver appliqué as opposed to plating.

If it ends up disastrous, we can always wait for v2 from you ;)

Thanks for all your work thus far!

It will be one piece cast glass for now, I'm quite satisfied with it but I will think about how to make it in separate pieces.
