Finally. After 15 years, 6 knives, countless rolls of tape/cans of paint and the majority of my sanity I have finished my greatest project: my replica Rambo: First Blood Part II knife. I wanted a more screen accurate paint scheme, a better finish and grain of the steel, close to screen accurate sheath and even better survival contents in the handle, so that's what I set out to do a decade and a half ago. Started with a UC version, but sadly the blade was VERY crooked and was not set into the handle properly. Some were close, but (surprisingly, I know) I found a MC version with good grinds and a straight blade/tang/handle alignment in '09. Since then I've devoted countless hours to perfecting it, and a little over an hour ago I finally did so. The finish is VHT engine enamel (as suggested by M. Welze in an hour long phone convo in '11) and a final overcoat of Krylon Maxx in flat black. The sheath was a bit of a chore also; the pouch for the diamond rod (which isn't an EZE Lap like the film, but actually an off brand from an Ace Hardware for $6) is made from a section of leather that held two tool bag handle straps together and I hand stitched the entire sheath together with heavy black thread. The stickers on the back were a gift from my nephew, Jack, on his first visit to SMKW where I actually bought the knife, and below them is a (poor) carving of the Congressional Medal Of Honor in tribute the the two Rambo was awarded for his two mission in 'Nam. The butt cap, diamond rod fittings and the snap on the sheath were all two coated in VHT, and the lanyard and leg tie are both black parachute cord. (I had previously went with leather bootlace for the leg tie and Italian suede necklace cord for the lanyard but the H.A.L.O scene in the film made the para cord seem like a more logical choice) I even added a better compass in the cap as the one that came with the knife wouldn't move at all so I broke one out of the middle of a survival card and fitted it in with an adhesive. I hope these pics are clear enough to show detail and I hope you enjoy.
