Rambo 3 Knife Display Case / Display.

Well, I have finally gotten round to making a start on my Rambo 3 knife display case. As you can see, its still a work in progress. I haven't actually connected the perspex together yet, just held it together with some gaffer tape to show you guys how far I am. It will be held in place with wooden 'L' shaped strips, which will be dark stained to match the base. As I have done with all my other Rambo knives, I have ordered a brass plaque with the Rambo 3 logo, and underneath, saying "Hibben bowie".

As you can see on my initial pictures, I was going for the red felt base, but I then decided to go for a more fun and radical look. I covered the base with paper machete, so I can make small rocks and such, then cover the molded paper machete with PVA glue. I then popped down to the toy store and got a bag of kids play pit sand, and then I covered the base with more PVA glue, then applied the sand. I then, once the PVA had dried, used firm set hair spray on the top of the sand, to stop any loose sand getting away. I will then mount the brass plaque on a paper machete rock in front of the knife. I added a stuffed scorpion that I picked up from a swap meet into the case, my Rambo 3 Buddha pendant, I will also add the Hibben sheath, (if it fits), and then a few inert bullets here and there. :)

Its still a work in progress, but I am happy with the look. Its a bit more exciting that just a plain old red felt case. ;-)

Very cool! Love that scorpion! :thumbsup

Thanks guys, just a bit of fun at the end of the day. Im replacing the red felt on the mounts to brown felt, as the red looks well out of place with the sand, and especially the clash with the green buddha.

That is sweet!

Thanks for the kind words guys. I have made a few slight amendments. I have changed the red felt on the stands to a closer match to the sand. I have also added a couple of AK47 rounds. I am also toying with the idea of using some coiled barbed wire, and partially burying it in the sand. I will have a think about it before making my mind up.

i like it alot . very cool

Thanks,
Ive been a busy bee, and made a display for the other rambo movie knives. they are still a work in progress, but will be finished shortly. All the edges of the cases will have 'L' shape wood applied to them. The Rambo First Blood Part 2 display, has real barbed wire incorporated into it, and I added some pointed bamboo, to represent Punji Stake traps, which were used during the Vietnam conflict. The rubber tree plants are artificial. The First Blood knife display, has an artificial fern, with dog tags and tarp. Finially the Rambo machete, its still in its design stages, so everything will be moved about shortly. I wanted to go with the display the same way the movie was made, dark simplistic and moody (same as the brutal looking Hibben), so I went for the work bench look. Im going to add some metal filings and swarf. I also have a propeller which I am waiting for, which is similar to the one used in the movie.

Once I have mounted and removed the protective covering on the perspex, and added the wood edgeing, I will post more pics. :)

AWESOME displays! :thumbsup

Thanks mate,
They look a bit tatty and incomplete at the mo, but once they are complete, they will look great! My fave is the Rambo 2. I have been very lucky, in the sense that I havnt had to compromise from the initial idea popping into my head, to physically making them. They also didnt take that long to make. I also loved messing around with papermache. I did want to make the soil a little lighter with clay kinda colour, I bought some terracotta paint which was the right colour, but applying paint would look too fake, so I thought against it, and kept it 'real'. I had so many ideas that I could incorporate into the displays, but unfortunately restricted on space within the cases, plus I think you can overcrowd, and then it draws the attention away from the knife. :)

awesome details, true to the real locations and props.
Have you considered some blood spots/drops?

Well funny you should say that, as I was toying with the idea of The Rambo First Blood part 2 display to have a red metal gasoline can (cut off at the first quarter, so it would fit into the case), with some chicken feathers, or a taxidermy chicken depicted as dead with its eyes shut. Then use some maize stalks, to sit up straight, then apply some red paint to the stalks. This would be depicting the scene where Rambo tricks the vietnamese army into following the blood trail thinking he was injured, then he set fire to the maize killing the soldiers. I had the gas can, and the other stuff was easy to source. But I went for the barbed wire look at the last min. :)
