Just came in. Age 87, and truly one of the giants of comedy. His Demolishing of a new gas station in "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" is one of my all time favorite movie scenes.

Here it is - For those unfamiliar with it, a group of people are all in a race to get to a park, wherein is buried $300,000.00 (Lots O money back then), Phil Silvers after finding out about it from JW, Leaves him, and tells the gas station guys that he's an escaped lunatic. They knocked him out, and tied him up, this is where he wakes up -

I just saw this. We just lost one of the last original funny men of standup. Well he's with Dean Martin and the Rat pack now causing all sorts of trouble no doubt.

Not to mention his episode of Twilight Zone. Great Episode.

Now I must go to you tube to find mad, mad, mad world...

That was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid as well. I also remember his stint as the baby on Mork and Mindy

That probably came about because Robin Williams was a huge fan of Johnathan Winters and I believe that Winters was at least a source of inspiration for William if not a mentor. One of the funniest things I ever saw was an old 60 Minutes piece that had both Johnathan Winters and Robin Williams together and they spent almost the entire time just improving and bouncing off of each other, it was like Whose Line is it Anyway on steroids.

You might be able to find it on youtube, there's some really bad quality Letterman Show footage of them together too on there.

Apparently back then you didn't get into much trouble for swearing, then again i think they could edit it before it went to air as nothing was live back then.

He was the guy that got me calling old ladies "Blue hairs" and almost slapped by my grandma all in the same day. May he rest in peace

Damn! Now this was truly one of the greats. I was just watching clips of him on youtube last week after sitting through Mark Hamill's "Comic Book: the movie" where he had a small cameo with Sid Ceaser that was hands down the funniest thing in the whole movie. "Back in the war we had no money - we'd get our wages and head off for shore leave and perhaps have enough to pay for 1 ugly woman or a small boy." There's a clip on the tube that also has Cosby saying Winters is the greatest stand-up of all time and I would second that emotion. RIP Mr Winters.

What a Lost to this world.

I love its a mad mad mad mad world. a lot of great actors are in that movie.

I mainly recall him from the Scooby Doo movies cartoons.

Oh No! :(

He was indeed a mentor to Robin Williams and was doing that type of wild improv in the 1950's.

One of the greats and a true innovator and sheer Genius.

What a terrible loss!!

That should be required viewing for ANYBODY who enjoys comedy.

SO many classic lines in that one!!!

Gonna put that one in a few hours so the girlfriend can laugh, mourn, AND get educated all at the same time!

It was the first movie that i remember ever seeing Spencer Tracy having a sense of humor in, he was always so serious.
