Questions about gaining pemission to impersonate characters.

Hi everyone, I've been a member here and over at Brotherhood of the Bat for quite some time and I'm starting to volunteer my time as Batman at a few local charities. Most recently I spoke to the Children's Hospital about doing some appearances for them but they asked if I had permission to "impersonate" Batman. I thought that if I wasn't making money off of these events it wouldn't be an issue but maybe I'm wrong??

Anyone have experience with this or know how to go about requesting permission for DC and/or Warner Bros. if I need to?
