Question about the Detolf cases

They are fairly easy to take apart, although when I moved house I just moved them in one piece minus the shelves as they are pretty damn sturdy, the shelves arent adjustable for height at all, the only way to fit bigger items is to take a shelf out.

I wouldn't recommend taking them apart. I think it would be easier to damage the glass that way.

Yeah, when moving them just keep it assembled. Having sheets of glass lying around is bound to get them broken.

I recently moved and transported it as one piece. I took the glass shelves out and wrapped the whole thing in a few moving blankets and layed it down in the truck flat on top of a couch. My dad and I moved my whole house. I dont trust movers moving any of my stuff. I drove the truck about 15 mph. Our move from house to house was about 8 miles. I made the trip with the truck at about 2am to avoid causing traffic jams. :lol

I moved my entire collection in about 130 boxes - All in my pickup truck. Took 4 trips to my dads place. Then we had to move it all again from his house to my new house since we had to wait 3 days to close inbetween sales. That sucked! We rented the moving truck for 5 days and parked it at my wifes parents house when it was full. There was no way i was unloading and loading that twice.

I'm never moving again. :wacko

I have moved twice with these and never took them apart. They are extremely durable and rigid.

All I know is that they are heavy and that is why the shipping costs are so high. I cannot find the shipping on the site now as they contact you about your order. When I was going to purchase 4 last year the S&H was going to almost match the total for the 4 Detolfs. Everyone I have talked stated that they were delivered by 2 people and anyone who picked one up at the store needed help.

Width:16 1/4"
Height:3 1/4"
Length:65"
Weight:89lb

Unless it changed the shelf dimensions are
14 1/2" wide by 15" tall by 13" deep

I know that others had have problems displaying helmets on certain types of stands and the Sideshow PF figures are too large for one shelf height wise. I have seen where they had to take out a shelf to fit.

You are lucky as you have 2 stores near you.

IKEA Baltimore 8352 Honeygo Blvd.
Baltimore, MD 21236 41 miles

IKEA College Park
10100 Baltimore Ave
College Park, MD 20740 15 miles

If I was you I would be all over them. That is me and I am bitter that I live in BFE away from all of the outlets.

Thanks!

Greg

I foyur talking about jus moving them from corner to corner or room to room, its easy. An old trick is to place a peice of styrene under the peice of furnature and just slide it across the floor. I assmbled my detolf alone and it was fun. More so in trying to keep the cats from helping than anything else.

One last thing. I have moved mine several times. And when moving out of the building, across states, etc. I do like to take them apart. I stack the glass together with cardboard between them and tape them all together.
In my last move I did make one mistake. I also (just to make it easy) taped (with clear packing tape) the top and bottom "wooden" peices together. This proved to be a big problem as when I pulled the tape off it took the wood pattern off with it - leaving it nasty looking.
As it turns out I wanted 2 black ones for the Star Wars "room" so I just spay painted the wood parts black, put them back together and they look fine. But that tape put directly on the quality wood surface:unsure was a big NO-NO.
