question about Firefly/Serenity pistol sizes

Maybe it's just the look of film... I'm well aware things appear differently through the lens sometimes. And maybe this has been discussed way to much already but I can't find it.
Is it just me or were there differences in the size of Mal's pistol between the show and the movie. The movie gun looks bigger to me. I also gotta say... the movie gun looks bigger than any replica I've seen so far. Even the Sidkit Serenity version. I know there are some replicas that are molded off the screen used item... which by the way, was that done during production or from someone's private collection, just curious. And I don't think I've ever seen a Model 47 compared next to any of the other replicas... hint for pics!
Anyway, I'm just really a huge fan of the whole firefly bit and someday want to somehow purchase or build myself the ultimate Mal pistol. One of each version if possible. So I figured I'd start probing you guys tonight.
Anybody wanna toss in their 2 cents?

Well, from what I know, the Serenity version is actually the modified version of the tv show pistol. So, in essence, the tv show version doesn't exist anymore, but the film version would be the same size (plus a few new greeblies and such though)...

which is what I heard but I also thought I had a shot of the two side by side... let me see if I can find it. Didn't they have at least one extra just in case?

Here is the pic I was thinking about - if the owner wants it removed just let me know, it's in a password protected, randomly numbered photobucket account but I can take it down if I'm stepping on toes.

So if this is indeed the movie and tv version side by side I guess they are the same size...

That is my understanding as well. All the different versions I've seen are about the same size. Here "meatier" magazine of the Serenity version no doubt contributes to making it seem larger.

Here are the versions I have:
QMX resin Serenity, Sidkit metal Serenity, Sidkit metal Firefly, Phil real bronze Model 47, Phil resin Firefly). All the metal guns have wood grips.

One interesting thing is that the Sidkits are actually (slightly) larger than the screen-cast versions.

that model 47 is a work of art... if only... weird though... the pic makes the qmx look the biggest. probably cause its on the top

Thats my picture of one of the two original live fire hero Mal pistols (top) and a resin Phil casting (bottom). There were two pistols made for the tv show and both were completely rebuilt and modified for the film. Its true to say the Firefly version doesnt exist anymore, BUT, the guns could easily be returned to thei previous exterior state with parts from the "Model 47" replica.

Cool... thanks for the reply Rob... and I guess you don't mind me posting the pic, very cool. From the way you worded the returning of the pistols to firefly likeness almost implies that someone would have a chance of doing that... are both the pistols in private collections now? If I ever win the lotto I might have to try to track one of them down:lol... would have to build a replica of the lassiter display for it though! Also... whatever happened to the 47a project? If I had the money I'd be all over that! I gotta say whoever is in possession of the model 47 run guns are the luckiest SOB's... just in line behind whoever's got the originals of course.

The Model 47A project is alive, just held up on some parts. Its a complicated project.

The two live fire Mal guns are at a shop unde rlock and key. I dont think they will ever make it to private hands but time and money tend to have a way of bleeding into each other.
