A few months ago, Fyberdyne and I were asked to build a replica of the handlink from Quantum Leap for a fan film that debuted at Leap Back, the big Quantum Leap convention in LA.

Having access to really good pictures of one of the screen used originals, we came up with this:

All of the pieces of plexi are CNC'd and then some had to be filed or machined again to assure they all fit. For as small of a piece as it is, I don't think I've ever worked on anything so complicated.

The electronics are same base set up that was used in the movie. The changes we made were by adding different LED's, which light the blocks from the underside, instead on top. That change was made because of the block LED's don't exsist any more.

The only thing I have left to do on this particular one is to make the switch cover on the side, and machine one piece to make it fit. Otherwise it's done and I'm pretty happy with it.

That is sweet! My dad loved that show, wish he was around to see this he'd want one!:thumbsup

Glad you guys like, it was a lot of fun to build. Not saying I'd want to build a bunch of them, but I am excited about if nothing else having one to sit on my shelf!

Gregg

Gregg man, that is looking rather sweet! Quantum fans should be all over this one! Will this thing light up etc???

Dave :)

Gregg...Droidboy...that's a name I haven't heard in a loooong time... long time.

lol - welcome back old geezer ! Say hi to Mark for me, its been far too long !

I'll definitely say hi to Mark for you, and Dave, watch the video...the electronics are already installed.

Gregg

Thanks Mike! That means a lot coming from you. Thanks for the suggestions last InCon.

Gregg

Gregg – Yours is the nicest version of hand link I’ve seen. You did just an awesome job my friend. I’ve already got a space reserved in the display case in the office for mine. :cool

You all did a great job on this! Cudos!!

Go Ziggy.. These are sweet.. I asked ages ago about these over at yourprops.. Believe it was through MadKewl.. Was going to grab a handlink that has around 50 L.E.D lights in it and a sound effects pod that plays a 10 second sound effect, but never got around to getting one.. Actually forgot til now.. Another thing I am gonna have to save for.. :lol

Another member here was going do be doing these but no recent updates. :(

I did a run of these and there was no interest which really surprised me. It seemed like such a popular prop too. I think I have enough pieces to build another one if anyone cared.

Gregg

Yeah this prop is a great one!! I had always wanted one since i was a kid then one day i decided i was gonna make myself one! lol.. I went through a box load of these i bet during the trial and error stage but im getting alot better now.. i can have one made in a pretty decently quick time compared to what it used to take me... if anyone cares. Here's one of mine.

Dude...why are you posting pics of your piece on everyone elses threads? Granted this is an old thread, but still not cool to do in 3 different ones, including your own.

Gregg

Thats how i roll.. lol.. actually i wasnt sure which thread people were discussing on the most so i just went to them all ;)..
