Wasn't too amused to receive this in my email.
Based on the sold-out Official Serenity Blueprints (see first image above), the Serenity Blueprints Reference Pack contains 33 12" x 16" full-color pages, including those 10 original blueprints covering the design, systems and layout of Serenity. Add to that 23 pages of never-before-seen de8õé tails about Serenity and the rich history of the Firefly design, and you've got yourself the most complete documentation of the Firefly available in the 'Verse!

Here's some of what you get:
  • A full-page blueprint of Serenity's Flying Mule
  • A full-page blueprint of Inara Sara's Shuttle
  • One page of Serenity's builders' plaques
  • One page of warning labels and other signage
  • Four pages of bridge computer displays
  • One page of Serenity's door designs (yes, doors)
  • A copy of the confidential Allied Spacecraft Corp. memo outlining the development and introduction of the original Firefly.
  • A transcript from the popular do-it-yourself ship maintenance vidfeed, Boost Your Boat.
  • A page from the yard log of Austin's Salvage documenting the arrival of the Independents Military Gunboat, Cerberus.
  • The top-secret engineering blue book entry on the amazing new Series 4 Firefly.
  • Drawings of the Series 1, 2, 3 (military variant), and 4 Firefly designs done by one of Serenity's original creators, Tim Earls.
  • An essay by legendary sci-fi author Orson Scott Card on the importance of Serenity.
I can kinda see why QMX are releasing this - But it's a bit of a kick in the teeth for those of us who paid full whack the first time round, isn't it?
"Hey, you paid $100 for this already, but now there's a version for less than 1/3 of that price... With over three times the content!"

It's bad enough when DVD producers double-dip...
Unchuffed.

These aren't the same thing. The originals were poster-sized prints. These are much smaller... supposed to fit in a ring binder (which was possibly supposed to be included if I'm not mistaken).

I know I'm biased (in the interest of full disclosure, I did a little work on backup material for the ref pack), but I have both and am glad I do. The original blueprints are a completely different beast - really large-format and on heavy art paper. (I've got one framed in my office; I rotate out the prints. My coworkers have pegged me as a freak).

Because they're so large, it's difficult to actually go through them to look at the details - something an obsessive guy like me loves to do. The Reference Pack is much smaller - more of a coffee table book - and meant to be flipped through. It can't take the place of the full-sized prints for sheer beauty, but it makes a great, well, reference.

That said, I completely understand why you might initially feel miffed. I bought my set of original blueprints and would do so again in a heartbeat.
If you have them both, side by side, you'll see that they absolutely compliment one another. One can't really replace the other.

I think i'd rather have this new set than the current poster set I do have as they seem to be more lookable at.

Sounds like a killer item to me! Sorry Rev, that you're ticked off, but thanks for letting those of us who didn't know about, know about it. I can understand how you might be raw over it, even if it's not the same thing.

I cant wait for this, and I agree, its a different set in all, I wouldent mind owning both, the larger prints and the set of smaller one's

Ah!
I didn't notice that the new prints are much smaller.

Sorry all! My mistake! That's what I get for Doing The Internets before breakfast... I somehow thought that the new set was the same as the original, but un-numbered, and with extra material. Made me wonder how they could justify the price difference.

I might buy a set now, then :)

Ok, it's long after 10am EST and I still can't find a place on the site that will let me purchase this. What am I missing?
