Prying up the faceplate of the Kalimar Six Sixty

I've got a question for anyone who has built a set of Luke Macrobinoculars using authentic parts.

How do you get the threaded lens ring out of the Six Sixty? :confused

I thought the threaded ring would just drop out when I unscrewed the four mounting screws... but all that did was to free the ring up so that it spins around in its housing. I can't get it out of the camera body without damaging the camera.

There must be a simple trick, no?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light on this. :)

Re: Question for those who have built Luke Macros

After having been advised by others that there is no way to get the threaded rings out without prying off the front plate of the camera, I did so tonight and liberated two rings with a minimum of fuss and damage to the camera.

Here's what I did:

I carefully wedged a flat screw driver in between the faceplate and the fixture that holds the "Kalimar/SIX SIXTY" logo on the face of the camera. Using the logo as a fulcrum, I worked the screwdriver gently under the lip of the faceplate and pried it upwards. Before it bent too much, one of the attachment points under the plate gave way and the whole upper left side popped free.

There are four attachment points, I think, and you'll need to pop two of them -- the top two -- loose in order to free the ring. The attachment points are pretty much where you would expect them to be, under the top left and right corners of the faceplate. It doesn't take much to pry them loose.

Once you've done that, you can gently lift the top lip of the plate, which should create enough space for the ring to slide out.

:D

Nicely done. Thanks for sharing! I've already put this information to good use.
