Probable Recaster Alert

sent this link to one of the mods several days ago but no response as of yet.

The original poster tried to go back and edit his statements after he was called out but was too slow. At first he tried to defend this DST phaser recast as an 'original sculpt' based on Gian Muraro's blueprints with 'design elements' of the toy on his 'wooden master' (apparently including the toys screws as well. The same picture background and use of blue appear on Ebay sellers ads who advertises these DST recasts as from ILM cast of an original. :unsure
Now he has stopped responding in what I assume is the hopes that we will let this slide. Be advised that he tried to edit out his more obvious bogus claims.
My issue wasnt that he recast a toy but that he was claiming that he had mastered a new 'KIT' from scratch and was asking for help on making it more accurate. The fact these are appearing on Ebay with equally bogus and easily disprovable claims to lineage speaks volumes as to the veracity of this individual.

You may also note when reading the thread that when certain tells from the toy are pointed out to him that he doesnt even know what we're talking about which is unusual that you dont know your own 'sculpt'. The laughable claim that he used Gian Muraros blueprints for a more accurate prop then duplicated all of the known DST design flaws (and a cast in side knob..apparently too hard to fashion a separate piece so he 'carved it in'...bwahahahaha ) such as upward curving side ribs. This is flat out nothing other then a casting of the toy being passed off as an original sculpt by someone who doesnt know the subject matter. The fact that they are being sold on Ebay (from the looks of the ebay pics compared to the rpf members pics) by the same person says it all.

Thanks. Pretty sure he was selling an earlier incarnation on Ebay. Same color blue. Same background used for his photos. This was a while back on Trekpropzone. Now he shows up here. On his auctions he claimed 'cast from screen used' and when we sent him emails about his misrepresentation the responses were eerily similar to the responses received here.

I don't think he even bothered to recast, in both cases it looks like he just repainted the DST and called it a scratch build.

He's too lazy to recast :lol

One more thing to note in his "finished KIT" is the lack of painting the nozzle where it SHOULD meet the body of the P2.

On ebay they didnt sell because he was trying to sell to people more savvy on the subject matter then he was. When they showed up on Ebay several folks from TPZ sent him messages telling him they knew exactly what it was he was trying to pass off and the auctions disappeared. He quite simply doesnt know the subject matter well enough to know what to change on the toy to make it unrecognizable as the toy. His biggest blunder was including a structural screw used only on the toy in one of his pics and not being bright enough to fill and sand the recast 'try me' slot on the P1. BTW, he made the same mistake with the 'Try Me' slot on his first attempt at this as well. The only thing worse then a recaster is an ignorant recaster.

I saw a recast MR ATAT go through the JY last week and nobody made a peep.

Toys 'R Us is still selling them. Also, there's the issue of the guy being a dirty liar about what his product is.

Still in production and the bigger issue is the blatant misrepresentation of this being something he built from scratch and made in to a 'kit'.
The mods have contacted me and are discussing it but it seems pretty cut n dry.

Thanks for the heads up, i doubt the staff will take any action on the grounds of recasting as the site rules only forbid recasting of another members work, perhaps some action will be taken on the grounds of missrepresentation though.

He'll definitely learn that if he is recasting , not to mention anything about it on he boards.


and I never knew there where acceptable levels of recasting. I mean any replication of a prop seems to be recasting , but there are various levels ? Like out of production is OK , Recasting members is NOT Ok ?? ..wow.. It amazes me how " we" as the coiners of the phase " recasting" , put various levels of the same illegal activity...I feel dirty but i like feeling dirty ..( looking around as if in a dirty back alley)
