Printing magazine covers

Hello, i have searched i haven't found information for printing fake magazine covers. It's possible to do this at home? I don't know what kind of paper or printer i need for this. I'm thinking in the glossy tipe cover, like National Geographic or other with thinner covers.
Thank you.

For a full cover you'll usually want an 11x17 sheet, that will give you enough area to cover the front and back of most magazines. Gloss unfolded brochure stock is good for them. Measure the magazine that you're going to place it over and then give yourself a bit of "bleed" area. That is when an extra bit of the cover color/graphic extends beyond where you're going to cut. The reason you want some bleed is so that when you trim it, you don't have a white border around the edge. Obviously with needing 11x17 paper, you'll need a printer that can accommodate that size paper.

Ok, then gloss brochure stock. Maybe i will try substituting only the front cover (is for a short film and the magazines are in a stand in that scene) so i can go for a smaller size like A4, if that don't work i will look for a A3 printer. Thank you very much, this information is very useful for me.

These are not true covers but I made these replica covers from the original photos taken by Life Magazine at the time.
I wanted them framed and enlarged but the quality of the original covers were poor from the net.
So I researched the original photographs and worked the new " covers " in photoshop. I added the Life logo etc .I then put a short quotation below the cover

I then printed them on my large format HP printer onto heavy matt coated paper. This always works well behind glass.

Final framed results are hanging in my home office.

I like 'em as they are a couple of my favourite subjects.:D

If it's just for something seen in the background then standard 8.5x11" sheets will work fine for the covers, most magazines are actually smaller than that.
I did some custom covers of magazines for my BSG collection a few years ago.

I haven`t had time to answer. Thank you to both, it's interesting, i have matte sheets, maybe i can try with it, but i think that glossy paper would be better for the screen. But for a prop behind a glass i will try the other option.
