Hey guys, was wondering if anyone has a pic of the drawing of the key that Jack has in the movie. Thought it would be a nice touch to go along with an actual Davy Jones key replica.
-Thanks for the help.

How can one screen grab from a movie that's still in theaters :confused ? But sorry I don't have any POTC pics in my collection. Great idea :) .

You could get a screen grab, but the ways and means to do so aren't legal, so I'm not going to say them here *cough*download*cough*.

Lol, I've been lurking some PoTC sites thinking that one is bound to turn up sooner or later but alas no luck. :p
I think they may be a pic of it in the trailor so I'm going to check that out quick.

someone here had a shot of the prop on display with the chest and compass...

From the trailer...

I'm searching for the HD trailer...

Funny you found those because I literally just found some and was about to upload it to share. :p
-Thanks.
EDIT: Thanks for the link Montagar but this prop seems easy enough to make myself, plus that one doesn't look like it is weathered enough.
-Thanks for all the help guys. Keep it comming :p
EDIT again: I found the HD trailer on keeptothecode.com go to the films part and it will say view trailor then it will have a whole list. However it isn't playing for me so can someone screengrab it from there for me?

Does anyone know how big the hole drawing piece is(well started out at, like if I looked at it like a square piece), I'm guessing alittle over 9 inches..

Damn you roboprop.
You and your evil army of propmakers...
You beat me for the last time... I will take my revenge.
(Put an evil laugh here)
LOL :D

Anyone with some measurements of ethier the key or the cloth drawing.
I'm dying the cloth, to give it an aged look, as I type this.

Somebody in the other Key thread said it was 4 1/4 long.

I personally can't confirm the measurement since I have yet to pick this one up.

Here is what I got so far after less than two days, I'm pretty content with it so far.

I still got to do some touch ups, and change one or two edges around, the photograph caught a weird light and it appears to have alittle red tint, that's not the case in person, I'll have to try to take better pics sometime later. :)

Thanks guys.
The camera keeps putting the flash on, and this isn't my camera so I don't know how to get the flash off. Its flushing out all the real nice details, and its making the left side look shinney, which its not in person. I did however get one pic with the flahs off but the pic is kind of blurry and has a weird tint.:p I'll try to get better ones up when I figure this damn camera out.
As you can see from the pics I fixed the lower right hand corner, and I added the dots in the top right hand corner, I also added more weathering but not much more, I still have a little more work to do on the left side to give it more of that almost leather feel/look.

This is what it looks like as of now which is pretty much the 99% completed version.
Now onto the fun stuff, how I did the left side...

The left side, well I'll start from what I was going to do, I was originally going to iron on wax paper in certain spots to create that effect but decided that it could not be done in the effect I wanted. So I then thought of dripping wax clumps onto the cloth to create the leather feel but decided it was more trouble than it is worth and it will wear off to easily.

So, I ended up using a combination of Superglue to create the smaller spots on the left side, and a few on the right, and all over the place on this thing for that matter. Next, I covered that side in clumps of hot glue. I then sanded them down a bit, and used a hair dryer to smooth over the tops of the clumps. Now, I didn't like this look as much as I hoped because the spacing wasn't that well on it, so I ended up filing it down even more to expose alot of the cloth. Thus the end result seen in the pic. The thing is the left side as well as some of the right is actually hiding a large seam created from when I inlayed two fabrics together, just somthing I thought should be done to create the effect, it could probably be done a much easier way. I'm going to end up touching up the left side a bit more, then thickening the key drawing a bit more, and smear it alittle bit more, then I'm thinking about just making the key..

What do ya think?

EDIT: spelling :p
