POTA Prequel "Rise of the Apes" announced!

Could the CG just be when they're showing "true" apes? Maybe they'll cut to actors in makeup after the genetic manipulation?

According to the article, no make-up for the movie.

I think the apes are going to be hybrid looking.

I do like the premise though. Genetically engineered does work for me.

They should leave well enough alone!

Nothing will top that first film with Heston.

How's about looking at the 1000 other Sci-Fi books that haven't been made into a film???

I thought the apes from the new PotA were very well done. Why in the hell would they need CG? Even Congo had a good, passable ape. Then there is the Cadbury commercial. So many good looking FX apes to NOT have to go the CG route.

well, james franco is in it. That can be considered a plus.

Also, Burton's planet of the apes was horrible. I think as long as it is better than that version than they have nothing to worry about

Sounds awful, it'd make more money as a musical

Well, to mince words, the "story" was awful- The makeup and costumes ROCKED! :D

Sounds good to me, I like the work WETA does.
I remember folks complaining that they were not going to use real actors in AVATAR as well before it came out, and that turned out OK. Anything is better then the original apes (yes fine at the time, but did not age well, look and move like people in ape make-up.)

Weta, not WETA.

It was the way it was used in the article that this thread was about, as seen below, so I just repeated it - but thanks for the advice.

" ...The effects team WETA Digital, who wowed moviegoers with their work on "Avatar," will reportedly use photo-realistic apes and not actors in costumes for the movie..."
