It occurred to me that it might be interesting to see where people are coming from. It seems that SW is a powerful mythos and that fans are unique in what they get from it. So I propose this thread as a quick and easy reference to see where folks stand with the films.
Comments are optional.

Here's my list:

Episode 1 TPM: 5/10
Episode 2 AOTC: 2/10
Episode 3 ROTS: 2/10

Episode 4 ANH: 10/10
Episode 5 ESB: 8.5/10
Episode 6 ROTJ: 0.5/10

Episode 7 TFA: 9.25/10

deduct 0.2 points for special editions


As you can see:
ROTJ was a complete blight on my childhood.
I'm in the ANH > ESB camp for sure.
I didn't think TPM was completely awful.
I liked TFA a lot.

Hmmm. I'll play;

Episode 1 TPM: 4/10 For the many good things in the design elements and that final Darth Maul battle. Hated Anakin.
Episode 2 AOTC: 5/10 Marginally better because it was Jar Jar lite, and some of the set pieces were good, such as Dooku/ Yoda fight. Bored with Anakin.
Episode 3 ROTS: 6/10 A slight improvement, with some extra terrible bits thrown in! Anakin becomes Vader. NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Episode 4 ANH: 9.5/10 Half a point taken off for the special edition because HAN SHOT FIRST!
Episode 5 ESB: 11 /10 This is the crowning glory of all the SW films and I doubt it will ever be beaten .
Episode 6 ROTJ: 8/10 Very fond memories of the summer this came out and seeing this in London, and despite the 2ndDS and the Ewoks I enjoyed it.

Episode 7 TFA: 8/10 A very good return ,flawed by some poor story decisions and trying much too hard , but saved by strong new cast, thrilling action and humour.

Episode I: 3/10. A near total miss, but introduced some characters and concepts that I'm fond of in other media.
Episode 2: 5/10: The second half is enough fun to make up for the first half. So it's 50/50.
Episode 3: 7/10: Some seriously cringe-inducing moments, but, you know, a C grade for the strong parts, of which there were many, no matter how tainted.
Episode 4: 10/10. Episode 4 SE: 8/10
Episode 5: 10/10. Episode 5 SE 9/10
Episode 6: 9/10. Episode 6 SE 7/10 I'll ding ROTJ a bit for a sloooow second act. Begins and ends on a strong note however.
Episode 7: 8.5/10: I'm dinging it a point for being a remake and because I have unanswered questions. The sequels could raise that score if they answer a few questions. I really like this movie.

ESB 9.9/10 was my favourite but now I love the way ANH can be watched as it's own standalone movie.
ROTJ 7/10 should have been two films. One focused on getting Han. Then one about the fall of the Empire too much in one movie now it would be a part 1 and part 2
TFA 6/10 Been thinking about the film more - when I buy this on Blu Ray will I watch it much, probably not... 5/10

2=7......A very badly written version of the Saturday morning serial...Star Wars
3=7......More action...Yoda fights......CGI galore

4=9.5.....An enduring classic
5=9.8.....Lawrance Kasden at his best
6=8.......Gary Kurtz leaves shaking his head and George decides Ewoks have more marketing appeal than Wookies

7=8......While it has JJ written all over it...Kasden has some nice influence, some interesting new characters and Mark Hamill gets $10 million for 50 seconds of film with no dialogue.

I'm going to list them from best, middle, to least:

IV the first and the start, right in the damn middle but a very good start.
V the second, a good film but not insanely great really feels like you could have spliced it with four above with no breaks in between.
VII the new one, a whole hell of a lot of FUN, plus a decent story with some old fashioned family drama (son becomes evil, son kills father, father is one of the original members) overall everything I've wanted since I was a kid, also Rey is a loveable sort who makes you like her straight off, Finn is also likeable and I hope we see more Poe, then we have Kylo who I think will rank alongside Vader as one the best bad guy, and as a first he's not smooth he's downright insane.

Middle chioces:
VI a weak film and about all that counts is Luke's confrontation with his father, ties up anakin's story well and sets Luke on his next journey but that is it.
II Anakin's story where it should start, decent film, could lose a few bits and could stand to be renumbered to one but gets the job done.
III same as above, needs to be made the second film everything about the prequels is loose and poorly told, it is however just what Lucas wanted-a soap opera, and it's as messed up as one.

Least choice:
I this film is one big, long soap opera episode that does about zip for the overall story, it also was a shot at selling product to kids like VI, it also tried too hard and tried to explain too much which might have been better told as a tv show.
