Here's the work-in-progress on my comic-style Batman. The first iteration was a glorified Halloween costume - Thanks to this forum, I'm stepping it up!
This is what I started with:
-Cowl: Licensed TDKR Cowl (fit was horrible - I have a 22.5" head and the cowl measures at 25". I had to wear a ski mask underneath it!
-Cape: Cloth cape custom made - easily my favorite part of this costume. Very professional looking with all finished edges and the signature Batman points at the bottom. One issue for me is that I needed a cape long enough (I'm 6'4" with boots on!)
-Suit: Grey bodysuit with black bat sewn on
-Shorts: Matman lycra wrestling briefs - Made in my hometown of Tacoma, WA. I used the same briefs in red for my Superman costume last year.
-Belt: The horrible plastic licensed utility belt. What a mistake.
-Gloves:
Rubies licensed Batman gloves. I love them except for the huge taper at the end - I'm a fairly lean guy and my forearms were swimming in them!
-Boots:
Funtasma by Pleaser "hero" boot - they are so terrible. My calves are swimming in them.
Halloween was actually a blast - my best friend was the Joker from The Dark Knight Returns and my girlfriend was a pretty amazing Poison Ivy. I was unhappy with my costume, so for Emerald City comic-con I'm making these changes.
-Cowl: Reevz Hush cowl in black is on order
-Cape: Sticking with my original cloth cape.
-Suit: Same grey bodysuit
-Shorts: Same Matman briefs
-Belt: 10 Pocket belt dyed a golden yellow, and making my own buckle.
-Gloves: Same Rubies gloves but modified
-Boots: Gotham 100s on order!
On the gloves: Maybe I'm the only one, but I dislike the "movie-style" gauntlets on comic costumes. Since I am using Hush as my main inspiration, I don't want to ruin it by putting movie gauntlets on it. Also I think the two-piece gauntlet-over-gloves really doesn't match the spirit of the comic. Which leads me to the Rubies gloves - pretty much perfect except for the flared openings. So I went about getting rid of some of the extra space:
Measured the amount I wanted to take out (almost two inches!)
Tried stitching this on the sewing machine but it kept binding, so I did it by hand with upholstery thread.
Looks pretty good for a hand stitch I think
Complete
So here's where I'm at now - I can't wait to receive my Hush cowl and start working on the new belt. I'm so happy I found this forum!
