Post Office Ban On Mailing Replica Or Inert Munitions - Obi Wan Grenades???

Here's a cut and paste from another forum that I frequent, AR15.com. I post it here because it seems to have some bearing on Obi-Wan replica sabers for those that want the real steel. What a bunch of crap!! I feel so much safer that inert pieces of metal won't be sent through the mail system anymore... legally at least.

Post Office Ban On Mailing Replica Or Inert Munitions

Friday, April 4, 2008 The Post Office is wading into the gun control debate. That's right, the U.S. Postal Service is trying to keep people from shippingreplica or inert munitions through the mail. They have no authority in the law, since Congress has kept for itself thepower to decide what can and cannot be shipped. But the Post Office istrying to say that replica or inert munitions are hazardous! Gun Owners of America's attorneys just found out about this outrageousproposal which was issued by the Post Office. Although the deadline forpostmarking is Monday, April 7, our attorneys say that e-mails and lettersshould be sent anyway. If you are a re-enactor or collector of replica or inert munitions, you arein the Post Office crosshairs. If you are not directly involved in this, you should still be outraged that a bunch of bureaucrats are trying tofurther restrict Second Amendment activity. By the way, there is one interesting dimension to all of this: Canada wantsthe US to help shut off shipment of these items into Canada. So it lookslike our bureaucrats are eager to appease other governments by changing ourlaws to make them as bad as our neighbors'. You can read the Postal Service proposed regulations here:

It doesn't look like there has been any ruling on this at all.

That's kinda the reason why the word "trying" is used and why they mention sending letters and why I posted it here in the first place since I figured it'd be of interest to Prop/Military collectors.

There's always UPS...Well, for a short time, I guess; if that passes.
I'm suddenly motivated to finish up a prototype.

I bet this gets blocked somewhere along the way. Still interesting info. I suppose even if they manage to do it I will just keep answering the question of "is this liquid, flammable or hazardous material?" as NO anyway so it will not really stop any shipping for me!:rolleyes
The post office is just bitter about e-mail:lol

This has come up before. Inert real grenades are already illegal to send in the mail, and replicas may already be so as well. I can't find the original thread about this so I guess it's dropped off.

Really? They're still available on Ebay...always a good guage of what's legal, etc.
Love to find out more, just the same.

Illegal items get sold on Ebay all the time. Ivory items shipped across international borders, bootleg items, etc. Ebay cannot, and does not try, to enforce every law.

We need to write the PO as of current law the PO itself cannot make ruling on what you can and cannot ship the only body that can set theses rule is congress.

I'm going to assume this is because the postal service can't tell real munitions from fake when they X-ray packages looking for terroristic threats.

I don't see this so much as an attack on 2nd Amendment rights as an over-reaction in the same vein as a lot of the Patriot Act.

As Richard Jackson said:
Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

I would say that "illegal", but non-dangerous, items are probably shipped quite often, but unless the package is X-rayed, no one knows.
