Hey guys, quick question. Is it not possible to resin over just a plain paper mache cast? Do I have to seal the cast first or make sure its completely dry or something? I already tried once and the resin did not take, but I figured maybe it had something to do with the oils from the quick clay mold I made seeping into the paper mache or something? Please help! I am desperately trying to finish a costume before Halloween and I am beginning to feel like this is a fruitless endeavor :( thanks!

Seal the paper mache first with ordinary white PVA adhesive glue ( school glue) you can get it at most stationer's , apply one coat and let it touch dry ( about an hour) and then apply another, let it completely dry , give it a light rub down with a sanding block and then coat with the resin , you can bulk out the resin with paper towels dimply drape them on and tap down with a resin coated disposable brush , when dry, sand smooth , then prime let dry completely, then paint .

Do you mean glue like normal white elmers glue or something? What if I plasti dipped it first, would that work?

I used this to seal the paper mache and cardboard for this.

Sanding a little 'keys' the surface and helps the resin bond better , but you don't really need to sand , I like to, as it gives me the opportunity to fix any blemishes as I go , just make sure you give the paper mâché at least two good coats of glue and let them dry completely before you use the resin , do that and you should be fine
