Please help identifying part- mallrats grappling hook launcher

We went to Jay and Silent Bob's secret stash today in Redbank so my girlfriend could geek out and we both could snag some comics. There is a number of props from Kevin Smith movies and since I'm in between projects the Silent Bob grappling hook launcher (Silent Bob/Batman launcher does this get moved to the DC thread then??) From Mallrats caught my eye. I took a lot of pictures and there is writing on the pistol base. I can make out the letters

SHEF or possibly SHER then the second line
RACIN

I've been looking up starter pistols thinking it's a gun for racing then I looked up race guns because apparently that's another thing entirely (not a gun guy, at all) but nothing close came up in either case

So I'll put up a bunch of pictures hoping it triggers something in someone

I took a cruise through the archives and Google: Sheridan Products, Racine, WI. The base gun is supposed to be an old PGP Pump Paintball Marker. In looking at the auctions on eBay, looks like a fair amount of body was added to the upper and to the grip.

Yeah thanks so much that definitely is what was used. Which actually answers most bottom half. You can tell from other pictures that they added and where they added to the grip.
The top stuff I need to figure out. The circle part almost looks like a speaker but I am fairly sure it isn't.
