Planetary Scavenger/Spaceman Halloween Costume Build (sort of)

For the past few years, my local community center has put on a haunted house. My absolute favorite part is being the guide through the spookies, and I like to wear something cool to go along with it. Sadly, it was cancelled this year and I only found out earlier in September. I hadn't planned on documenting my build, but I do have a few pictures of it. But I did learn a lot along the way. Nearly all my painting was inspired by the weathering techniques of the wonderful Adam Savage. Using only spraypaint, and some paper towels, I did a (imo) a decent job for my first time.

I began this project with two buckets from Home Depot. Using a razor knife, I crudely cut out pieces of it. I also learned that 20 year old buckets tend to splinter. Into THOUSANDS OF TINY PIECES when you cut them.
I also learned that bolts are expensive when you're working with a budget of $0. Everything I used in this was from my basement, or salvaged from my costume from last Halloween. (Which was also built in the same way)
For instance, the rectangular piece of metal on the bottom here was taken from our water heater. That 40-something year old hunk of junk ended up serving me well.

I was presented with a problem as well once I got the upper torso piece done. I wasnt able to fit into it. So now to put it on I have to have someone else reach up underneath and tighten up a bolt hidden waaaaaay up on my chest. Fun stuff. It fits nicely now though

But really, the torso was the easy part. I couldnt just leave my back empty. So, I built this circular thing out of the bottom of one of the buckets. Again, you can see within the window a part from the water heater. On the bottom, that gauge is from the water heater. In the second picture, it's the circuit board from an old phone.

The inside is also a mess

I've yet to actually put the whole thing on and take pictures, but i'll get that ASAP

I painted up a nerf gun that i'm sadly not using for my costume, if anyone happens to be interested I can post some pictures of it.

Also, I've posted on the forum once, so if everything is justified upside down, or causes your eyes to bleed, you can blame my lack of experience.

Hooray for learning!
