Pixar Bad Guy Reformation Question - Spoilers probably.

Toy Story 3 had me wondering with Lotso, if there would be some last minute hail mary play to change him into a good guy. Didn't happen did it. Personally, I think in real life it's nearly impossible to turn a really bad person around. Where do you think Pixar stands on villain reformation? What are your thoughts? Let me know what Pixar villains to add and where.

Reformed
- Anton Ego - Ratatouille [My Favorite Character]
- Zurg - Toy Story 2
- Bruce - Finding Nemo

Not Reformed
- Randall Boggs - Monster's Inc
- Chick Hicks - Cars
- Chef Skinner - Ratatouille
- Auto - Walle
- Sid Phillips - Toy Story
- Stinky Pete - Toy Story 2
- Al - Toy Story 2
- Syndrome - The Incredibles
- Lotso - Toy Story 3
- Henry J. Waternoose III - Monster's Inc
- Hopper - A Bug's Life

Sid (Toy Story) Hopper (A Bug's Life) and Stinky Pete (Toy Story 2) aren't redeemed either.

I liked it when Doc Ock redeemed himself at the end of Spiderman 2. Same with the Operative in Serenity. But keeping occasions like that rare makes it more dramatic when it happens.

I can't remember where I read it, but John Lassiter loved Romeo Muller's writing, who always reformed the villain, to gives kids hope.

Maybe Lassiter and his writing team take it a step further to show a more realistic side of life, where sometimes the bad guys remain bad guys to the end?

Hope is an interesting word here, wondering if it's a lesson or if Pixar doesn't really have hope for most of it's baddies. I agree with Smiling Otter that you don't want the punchline of every film to be the bad guy always get's his S together.

There could have been a terrific reunion with Lotso and his owner, where she could have melted him. It would have detracted from the goodbye ending for the main cast to share their new life with Lotso.

Baddie list updated.

Yet, Lotso was incredible. I think I would have been disappointed if he'd became good at the end of the movie.

As for Syndrome, since the case was really psychiatric here, one cannot expect him to redeem himself; Plus, considering how he meets his fate, I don't think the problem arise anytime soon. ^_^

Great villains stay villains. They are way too deep into " evil " to betray what they are and become the hero's friend.

That's the purple bear thing, yeah? Haven't seen the movie yet but just looking at the poster you KNOW that thing has to be evil.

Although he's fugly, I thought it was sad that "Mr. Incredible" didn't spend some time later with him. Loved The Incredibles tho.

Maybe Syndrome and Lotso have something in common, abandoned. Heck, probably could count Syd in that pool, I mean his parents never seem to be in the picture. (Not going for a hug-a-thon here, just thoughts.):lol

Absolutely.

Yeah, maybe Lotso and Syndrome share the same roots. Strong feelings of love, towards someone who will betray and abandon them later. Some time to feed their psychose on their own, to let it grow up, and pop to the broadlight.

As for Mr.Incredible, althought he's arrogant, he's also very aware of the risks his job included. Bomb-Voyage nearly blew Buddy up; It's the boy's immaturity that led to the train accident, and then to the supers to the finally forbidden.
Plus, he was going to be late for his marriage. No extra free-time for a young fan in there. If he went to see him, it would have worsen the situation; Buddy already felt betrayed, and it would have given him another twisted reason to stuck on Mr. Incredible.

IMHO. :)

( I am a huge fan of the Incredibles, loved that one ).

Mirage from the Incredibles was another who flipped. I would say Sid is debateable - he was scared into not blowing Buzz up - although we dont know where he went after that. Since he has a cameo in Toy Story 3 as a seemingly "fun loving" guy, I would say they are implying he turned around.

Charles Muntz from UP was a real SOB right until the end as well, LOL.
