Panavise options.....

Hi guys, I've seen several SS modelers here that use a panavise system to display their favorite models.

What options are available and what should I look for for display purposes???

Dave :)

I like using a thinner panavise mount. I believe the website www.panavise.com calls them "micro mounts" They are used for cctv cameras. (i didn't buy it from the website, i got mine on ebay)

here's an example: http://www.panavise.com/f/cctv/cctv_micro.html

keep in mind, these are only 6" I bought two and screwed them together to make it higher.

I like them because they're the thinnest, they're sturdy, and they screw apart in sections so you can adjust the height.

Other mounts I've seen are too fat.. and I didn't want to take away from the model.

They all have rather small mounting plates, and it will not be enough to stand a large studio scale model on it. You'll have to use the mounting plate and actually mount it onto a block or something. In my case, I mounted it onto a death star surface I slapped together.

here's a couple shots of my x-wing with the "micro" panavise.

I used one of the stubby mounts for Red Leader, this base was a temp while being painted and its now mounted to a black Panavise and in a huge display case, ill try get a shot of the bird in the case later.
I cant talk highly enough of these things, there perfect for SS models and the joy is, you can re postion them every so often for a different angle of attack LOL.

Ralphee your x-wing is beautiful.

The micro panavise I was talking about can swivel and twist just like ralphee's..

But his picture shows what I meant about mounting it onto something. You have to screw it onto a base or something just so it is secure.

Yes Thomas and thank you, likewise my friend, correct, it does swivel, they even do a telescopic one, i think Richard has used this type on a few builds.
Ill be using one on the cloud car build up for sure as i can bank it over in the display.

The idea I'm tossing about is, one, put a few of the smaller models mounted up on the wall and use the "stud mount" type of panavise for those........but the others I want within display cases, I think I'm gonna make a wood plaque and mount some copies of my "sculpting a galaxy" deathstar panels around the mount and maybe even spray the panavise rod the same color as the panels. Then put it all under a dome. I don't know if I can pull it off, but the more I get to see of these different styles, the better an idea I'm getting about how to organize it all. I sure thank everyone for contributing photos to this thread. It's been very helpful so far. Keep em coming folks!!!

you can barely make it out, but the Y-Wing and unfinished Thunderfighter in this pic (Y is to the right of the TV and to the right of that is the Thunderfighter) are mounted on panavise rods - the Y is mounted directly to the top of a Detolf and the Thunderfighter mount is anchored in the wall.

Wow, the wall mount looks really good from what I can tell. I may have to experiment painting the rod with the wall color. Very sleek looking. :)

Wait.. did you replace the door with han solo in carbonite?! Is that a functioning door? I'm like.. shocked.... if you could remove the door frame somehow, it would almost be a hidden passageway.
