Wondering if anyone has a few tips and pointers for painting veins?? Specifically in the mouth area?? ive seen a few pics of some pretty kick ass paint jobs with some great detail in the mouth (Big Gunns and monsterroom come to mind) Any help would be appreciated. thanx

When I have painted mouth veins I used a thin liner brush and some thinned out paints or inks and just draw them in. Make sure to look up reference pics on how veins look so you have an idea. That way they are more believable and not just random lines.

I have a tendancy to use fine sable brushes for any vien work....Plus I like to work it all in layers, painting the viens and arteries then using a fine mist of colour to push them back so they appear under the surface and doing some more viens and pushing these back too. This way you build up a believable vein pattern and it looks more three dimensional than simply painting them on.

Inks are already pretty thin so they are great for veins (well ats all I paint masks with anyway). I cant really explain how I paint them- allot of layers of thinned and regular inks. I alternate between the veins and base mouth colors. No two mouths I have ever done look the same.

Hey, that's just in time! I too work on the same. Painting vains in "3D" is not so easy. But thanks for the tipps!!

First I tryed to do it with red and blue threads... but..... yuck... looks not so good! :)

Red, Blue, Purple, Dark Red, Dark Blue, Light Red, Light Blue, etc. The darker colors- like Purple and Dark Red are going to look deepr and further away. The lighter colors look closer to the skin. And remeber the mouth is not just about the veins. it is also the base colors. It is never solid pink.

This is a great pic for inspirationas far as the mouth base colors. It is a screen used P2 mask (currently owned by Mr. Kidd).
