Hello,

I'm about to put some paint on leather, and wondered if i were to use an ordinary Humbrol Model paint or similar, would this damage the leather at all??

Probably a silly question, but i've no clue when it comes to this sort of thing!!

They have paint that is designed for leather. I got some at my local cobbler a while back. Not sure if model paint is the best...

When I used to airbrush leather jackets I used Golden acrylics or FW inks. They have zero damage after 5 years that I've used my riding jacket (other have reported the same) I always top coated mine with Golden mat varnish mixed 50% with Airbrush Medium. Oh and before you paint clean with rubbing alcohol, test a small section first. That will remove the dyes and oils from the leather so only do it where your painting. I managed to save at least 2 pics from all the jackets I did, you can find them here. :) Hope that helps.

Thanks for the advice and help guys, will go out this weekend and try and find some suitable paint!!

I painted my leather jacket over 50% being painted with acrylics back in 1985 and it still looks as good as it did then, no leather damage at all. I did that when I was a pot smoking teenaged metalhead with just a brush.
