First, a bit of backstory - I'm a film major working on a live-action/stop-motion superhero parody series called "Crash Jackson." Part 1 of the first episode is finished for the most part (it's been shown in class, but I still have to polish it up a bit before posting it), and I've started pre-production on part 2. Which brings me here to ask a question about costumes - I'm a long time lurker and I'm always impressed by what I see here, so I figured I'd ask you guys.
For reference, here's the best screencap I could get of Crash's costume:

Now for my question. Crash's costume is in dire need of an upgrade - it was thrown together as quickly and cheaply as possible, and actually started falling apart a few times during filming, so I want to make a new costume that looks nicer and is more durable. I've ordered some Gotham-100 boots to replace the Ebay "hero" boots I was using before, and I want to paint these a bright shade of blue to match the cape and trunks. I've heard of people using Nu-Life spray to paint these boots, but I don't know how to go about getting the right shade of blue - is the blue Nu-Life opaque enough that the black of the boots won't darken the color, or should I put on a base coat of white first?
