So I'm looking for something comfortable to wear at next years cons that don't involve armor :)

I thought about doing either a Outland Marshalls outfit or Jean Claudes uniform from TImecop.

Anybody have good resources?

thanks

Hey! Nice idea for a costume. "Outland" is one of my all time favourite films.

I suppose you have come across these patches anyway, but, just in case:

OUTLAND Embroidered Name Tag Patch - " O'NIEL " | eBay

Outland 'Crossed Keys' - 3" Embroidered Security Patch | eBay

Outland Movie Federal Security Agencey FSA Logo 4" Embroidered Patch (MIPA-40) | eBay

As for the Federal Security badge, I have seen it floating around here on the RPF.
As for the gun (if you are going for that, too), there is a toy rifle that is somewhat Browning 2000-ish, only it is something like three quarters the original gun's size:

Champions-Line Mike Peterson Gewehr 87 cm (NEU) | eBay

I am thinking of building a hitman version myself and will be using this as a base. Still have to figure out what the parts of that scope are...

Hope this helps.

P.S.:

Here is the thread about the badge:

Thanks. Now I just need to find the uniforms for both. I have a time cop gun already.

Please keep us posted on how this develops, I also think the Outland idea is excellent. Great movie from the early 80s when there was a lot of experimentation with sci-fi.

I'm putting together an Outland uniform and it's not as easy as it looks. The problem is finding the royal blue color AND the proper cut. Dickies shirts and pants can be found in the royal blue but they don't have the right cut. You can buy a USAF uniform shirt, but because it has a polyester content, dye doesn't take to it well (I had a professional dyeing company in Hollywood attempt it and the USAF shirt came out looking like denim).

What I eventually ended up doing was finding a Wrangler work shirt (on eBay) in the royal blue. I bought two, and cut one up to provide material for pleated shirt pockets and shoulder straps. The Wrangler shirt isn't made any more, so you have to find one on eBay or some other second-hand market.

Now my problem is to find pants in the right color. I have a pair of Dickies, but their royal blue isn't the same as the Wrangler royal blue. The Hollywood dye experts don't believe that the Dickies can be matched, so I don't know. I'm still working on it.

I've been working on putting together an Outland Marshal's uniform for this year's SDCC and I'm having a real hard time finding the right shirt and pants. The cut is easy to match but I can't find anything in the right color.

As far as I can tell, the original Marshal's uniform used 1960's-1980's era USAF shirt and trousers in shade 1549, but I've yet to track down a surplus supplier who has any in stock. I've looked at a number of tactical and police uniform suppliers and Dark Navy seems to be all the rage these days, far too dark to match the original Marshal's uniform. I looked at some Dickies work shirts and pants, but they would require quite a few alterations (no epaulets, wrong pockets).

Does anyone know a surplus supplier that has vintage USAF gear or a manufacturer of tactical shirts and pants that has a color that closely matches the Outland blue?

I've wanted to do this costume for years and have picked up bits and pieces along the way. All of the patches and the badge are available through several eBay merchants There is a online store that sells the full costume (shirt, pants, hat, patches, badge and rank bars). It isn't cheap, but it would be a one stop shop.
http://www.alchemyarms.com/product_p/outland-shirt-001.htm is a good page to start with.

Personally I have decided to go for one of the other characters, either Montone or a deputy. To that end I bought a couple of crappy badges in resin and have set about redoing them. The font used on some of the replica badges is incorrect and I tracked down some metal printing letters that match pretty closely to the ones on the original. The numbers also had to be modified. When I have them ready, I will cold cast them in either gold or silver for the deputies. I still have to find suitable sergeants stripes and pins for Montone so it looks as though it will be a deputies uniform for now

I took a look at the Alchemy Arms item and it seems really overpriced ($100) for what appears to be an $18 Dickies work shirt and some $5-$7 dollar patches.

As a possible alternate, I'm thinking of going as Mark Sheppard, the Con-Am 27 General Manager. His outfit has a few less elements but is light tan and white, which, as I've learned from attending previous SDCC's, would be much nicer to wear in San Diego in July. Maybe I could carry around a golf club.

Sheppard's costume was another alternative I had planned on. I agree that Alchemy is rather expensive but my interpretation is that the clothing is already altered and made to size. I completely suck at sewing, more likely to attach my fingers to the material. I don't know of anyone I can get to sew it so I'd wind up paying one way or the other. The deputies uniform is on the back burner as I am working on Garabali's season 1 uniform from Babylon 5 and the local Con is 15 days away. It'll probably be next years outfit.

Just noticed this thread. Outland was one of my favorite movies of it's time and I always intended to do the Marshals uniform but never did get around to it. Just for fun, I pulled my old AF shade 1549 shirt out of my back storage closet. Surprisingly, it still fits after way too many years, since I left that branch of service in 1977. However, it is not the shade of the Outland Marshal shirt, that one is definitely more a Royal Blue as opposed to the AF 1549 shade. It could be of the type used by the missile crews but I never encountered any of them since my SAC time was with the B-52's and judging from the blue sew on AF insignia I've seen, that might be the right color. That looks a very close match to the current TSA uniform shirt also but not a color that shows in any of my old police supply catalogs, although they are about 10 years out of date. Definitely have to do a custom dye job on maybe a set of khaki work Dickies. I am reminded of some stories by H. Beam Piper about the Paratime Police. I may have to read those again and come up with the uniform from those stories. They also encounter a nasty beast called a Venusian Nighthound. I might have to see about the possiblilty of doing that one for a costume. Nasty wolf like critter with 4 arms and lots of teeth. Could be fun.

Wished I'd found this when I was working on my uniform. I was driven nuts by looking for that shade of Royal, so I just got some Navy police BDU's. I've rationalized it by saying it's from the comic adaptation. Need to get some photos taken and posted.
