....It's Federation standard issue. A little less powerful, but with more options...
sixteen beam settings... fully autonomous recharge...
multiple target acquisition... gyrostablized...the works."

My plan is to build up a resin kit with as many of the bells & whistles of the DS9 hero prop as I can manage (check out here for some great reference material). I'm going to try and build it so the entire rifle can be field stripped and displayed in a case.
OK, here's the kit:
Overall, not too bad. A few air bubbles here and there, but nothing a little bondo won't fix. As you can see, it's already broken up into the basic components of the rifle. I'm going to try embedding strong magnets into the resin before I finish the pieces, then use metal rods to keep all the pieces properly aligned. First there are a couple of problems with the kit I'll need to fix up..
Problem #1: Well, not so much a problem as a curiosity at this point. The midsection of the rifle seems to be the wrong shape. Some of the DS9 rifles seem to have a rectangular midsection.. but the kit's midsection is a trapezoid :confused weird...
I'm not sure if this is entirely inaccurate or not... depending on the screen caps I look at some rifles seem to have a rectangular midsection, while others have the trapezoid.
What do the phaser experts here say? Were there differences in shape between the stunt rifles and the hero versions? Did the TNG props get redressed for DS9?
Problem #2: The emitter head was not completely cast! :cry The entire bottom portion is missing - which changes the angle where the emitter connects to the midsection. I'd appreciate any thoughts on how I could fix this.
Stay tuned for more updates. I'll try to remember to take progress pics every now and then...
