Non-cosplay, purely for carnaval || Jet fighter pilot

Hello all,

I'm looking for a fairly easy, yet accurate way to become a fighter pilot for a festival in february/march. (I'm also trying for real life! November 6th is first exam)

I've found a place for an overall already. This is the actual overall worn underneath the 'rest'.
Green Fostex pilot overall

Black shoes underneath shouldn't be a problem (they don't fly with the army boots :lol )

I also need a way to 'make' or buy anti-G-pants. I've seen them going around for €60 to €145. Shouldn't be such a problem too.

Here are some pics. The suit is obviously based on the RNLAF (My future employer I hope, if it's not as a pilot, it might be as a meteorologist)

more about the helmet.

As I can see there is;

-An overall
-A swimvest
-An anti-G pants
-Gloves
-Maybe a parachute? It's not named though.
-A helmet with 2 visors (HGU-55, HGU-29 or SPH-4. Cheapest one wins.)
-Oxygenmask

If I'm missing something, I'm okay with that. The plus with this for carnaval is; it's washable, it's warm (since it can be below zero a lot), and with visor up and mask loose, I can actually eat and drink.

I'f I'm lucky and I get through all of it, I'm wearing it all in about 4 years and get paid for it. :lol

Would be a nice costume for carnaval. I will most likely go as Capt. Jack again like last year.
Good luck with the costume though.

Thanks! There is also a possibility I will have to make the helmet myself by buying different parts gradually.

I know the shute is integrated, but I wasn't sure if it was displayed. So the swimmingvest it is. Also; SPH-4 is cheaper and can be a nice base. The helmet you linked could be a good startig point too.

And if I will become a jet or heli pilot, is something the RNLAF will decide. ;)

Since all your photos were of a fighter jock, I assume you are leaning for being a fast mover.
I personally loved my SPH-4 and hated having to convert to the HGU-56.
If you want to go as a rotor head you can drop the g suit and just need an ALSE vest and the float coat.

Yeah I lean towards the F-16, but the chances of getting there are so incredibly small... And I secretly would enjoy an apache just as much. (Or even chinook)

Exactly. It was rather comfortable. I just didn't look at the price tag though.... I'm so stupid.

We'll if you don't like the cost of motorcycle equipment them you will be really unhappy about the cost of flight gear.

It wasn't motorcycle even. It was skiing. It's rather affordable actually, but just for the heck of it, I'll be looking thursday in the shop of Flash-Aviation. They have second hand stuff and maybe I can find something inspirational.

I'm thinking of making the mask with a cheap half-mask, and a vacuum-cleaner hose.

Ski helmet? Wow.
Buckles, clips and zippers would be the big cost but sage green fabric and straps could be used to recreate the g suit and vest.

Yep, thinking of using foam for the vest. I'll post pics from my visit to the shop.

Too bad I didn't make it in the tests. Failed on just one subject. Could try next year again, but I'm going to try for a different function anyway. :)

Been to the shop and could make some pics of helmets (often too big for my head though).

They are for sale, but far above my budget. However, on the dutch equivalent of Ebay I've found some nice helmets, some real, some in need of editing. Still nice though. I'll be orderding the overall in about a few weeks, or maybe even tonight. Depends on some budget-rules though.

After you join can you retest?
I didn't make it at first and became a maintenance technician, just to be around aircraft, and then made it a few years later.

And, that is a store. :love:love

I'm trying for meteorologist. I'll be close to the air traffic controllers and the squadrons.
I can only retry because I didn't make the psychological tests(just for one part). If I fail the simulators or anything else, I won't make it ever again. I might try anyway..

However, I will try to get at least a ride in a jet as photographer ;) Just to do it once. maybe twice. But I'm not sure if we even have dual-seated F-16's here. Oh RNLAF, pleaaase let me join you :D :lol

psychological tests(just for one part).

Bunch of white coated egg-heads. :thumbsdown
I guess gone are the days, where you only needed perfect vision, hearing, and a good EKG.

If you are worried about the sim, you should build one of these to go along with your flight suit.

Hah, there are a gazillion steps to get through.

Psychological Exam #1 (3D view, Hands-feet-eye-coordination, hearing test)
GVSS (Automised Pilot Selection System; flying on instruments in sim)
VFS (Visual flight selection, Flying by nose in sim)
Psychological Exam #2 (Leadership, motivation, and a chat)
SOL (Selection learning airforce, flying in a cessna and a stuntflight to see of you get airsick)
Medical Exam (your fysique is being tested and there will be looked at your medical history)
End assignment (this is the last chat you will have)

And EVEN if you made it through all of this, there's no guarantee you'll become a pilot. They can always say no in the end. THIS is how hard it has become and why only 6% of those who try get through. Only the psychological exams are able to be done over. All the others will have a life-long result. Failing once means you'll never have to try again.

I scored quite high on the PE #1 but I just had one grade under the norm. So yeah.. You can score all A's and one D and you're out. All C's and you're through. It's that strict.

(I'm not familiar with the A-E system but it's for comparison)
