Nightwing Escrima Sticks - Version 1.0

Hey everyone..

I was asked (and commissioned woohoo!) to make some nightwing escrima sticks.. I've seen a bunch of posts online for the sticks.. but none really came to fruition.. the first stab at the sticks will be for halloween, but in start of working on them, I've already found ways to improve..

For the most part, they will be made of PVC.. regular and clear.. I will have 2 LEDs .. and I will have capacitive touch! so if you touch the tip of the stick, it will start the glow of the lights. The lights will increase until maximum, and then start to blink.. once the touch is removed, the light will fade out, or fade to a light blue glow..

All the mechanics.. the code has been written, the wiring is planned and bread boarded successfully.. this weekend I will be putting version one together..




Version 1 is planned kind of like above. version 2 will be different and involve casting or 3d printing of the key pieces..

so a little bit of a snag.. the 2 cell 6V battery pack does not provide enough power for the device and the LEDs.. so a 9V works fine.. however, it doesn't fit in the 1" PVC tube.. <sigh> I will either dremel it out, or I've ordered a longer 4AA battery pack.. hopefully it will fit..

but here is a pic of the end .. the clear PVC.. the touch sensitive tip..the black line on the clear PVC will connect the bottom portion (electronics) to the top portion.. secured wire with a screw .. also to make the connection..

I know this post goes back to last year so it isnt sooo recent, but would you happen to remember the clear pipe that you used/where you got it? And also how you connected it to the PVC. I'm making my own sticks and bought 1inch PVC pipes/couplings/caps and i bought a polycarbonate pipe with a 1inch inside diameter hoping that it would work but it didn't and ever since then, i cant seem to find an appropriate clear pipe that matches up.
